I prefer to use SPD cleats on my road bike so looking for some lightweight shoes with recess, sub £100. Ive currently got Shimano RT32 which are getting to the end of their life.
Any suggestions welcomed

I have these (on road bikes), same upper just a bit chunkier sole, and they are great, very comfy for my feet at least.

I hadn't realised there was a more 'svelte' version - these just might be my next pair!0 -
I'm currently using Scott Tour shoes - mine are black and red from I think 2016 or something. Good shoes and are proving very hard wearing. Decent ventilation also and 2 hole SPD only cleat configuration.
This is the 2018 version:

The giro cylinder and privateer shoes are worth a look. Although marketed as off road shoes, I have no complaints after switching from Shimano rt32's to the cylinders as my commuting shoes over the last year0

I'm with you on the preference for SPDs and am currently wearing either Shimano RT82 or Giro Republic LX both of which I find very comfy and good to use over distance. The latter are particularly good because you can replace the 'walking pads' on the soles if you ever need to. IMHO, the reflective silver finish on the Giros that I have also looks very cool.Cannondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra

The Giro Cylinders look pretty good, and a decent weight too considering the chunkier sole
I think the Scott Tour ones might by my choice though
Much appreciated peoples!0 -

I've bought a pair of the Privateers for touring use, be aware of the sizing though - in Specialized, Fizik and Sidi I'm a 45, for Shimano I always go for 46 but I had to go to 47 for the Giros as they are very narrow.0 -
I've also got a pair of Giro Privateers - that I use solely as a road shoe - and am very happy with them.
As noted, be aware they are quite slim-fitting, which suits me fine.0 -
+1 for RT82Van Nicholas Ventus
Rose Xeon RS0 -
+1 again for RT82-a pair of NOS came up on eBay in size 43 for £40 posted, considering getting as a spare for when the current ones bite the dust0

Another vote for the RT82s if you can track down a pair in your size.0

Shimano XC 50 look the dogs... in black with orange laces they are stylish enough to wear in the pub
The RT82 are a good call, but less pub friendlyleft the forum March 20230 -

The problem with them that I can see is that you will have a metal lump under your foot without the rubber raised sections at the side that spd shoes have.0 -
Yes, no I won't consider those!0

Yep, my son has some cheapish Spiuk shoes which take 2 and 3 bolt cleats. He's got SPD cleats on them and they look harder to walk in than SPD-SLs. Worst of both worlds I think.0
