Power Meter (ANT+) With Multiple Head Units and Zero-Offset

I'm new to power meters and I just bought one (PowerTap P1 pedals). I know that I am suppose to do a zero-offset before every ride, but I had a question about that when used with multiple devices.
Today I have a Garmin watch and I plan to get a cycling computer soon. I will have BOTH of them displaying the power values.
Do I need to do the zero-offset on both devices? This is what I'm thinking in that the offset is used on the head unit itself
Or is the head unit somehow transmitting something to the power meter so that the power meter itself can zero-offset and thus I only need to do the zero-offset on "one" of the head units?

You only need to do the zero offset on one device as it sends a command to the device to perform the off set.0
