Elan Valley Wales routes

I'm heading to the Elan Valley in Wales at Easter so researching some road based cycle routes.
I've found a tough sounding route on the Guardian website but am looking at some easier options too. I've found talk of some 40/70/90 mile sportives in the past but no actual routes.
If anyone could recommend some routes that would be great!
Non of us are riding super light road bikes so some cycle-path trail type surfaces will be fine too.

Have a look here. From around Km 210 we were in the Elan valley and an awesome route. At Km 231 we turned left towards Devil's bridge and Aberystwyth, which was awesome, but even turning right back down to Rhayader is awesome too... basically you can't go too much wrong
