Cheap road bike on turbo, for Mrs & Me

I currently ride a steel disc bike, and eyeing up a carbon lightweight. My wife doesn't have a bike but wants to do indoor training, as do I.

Would a cheapish road bike that lives permanently on the trainer work for both of us? I had been thinking Wattbike Atom, but put off by the problems flagged on here.

Depends how much size difference there is between you and your wife.

A small bike that fits her, and then just raising the saddle for you could work. How comfortable the rest would be I don't know.

go to local dump

get two bikes that fit you

strip off everything you don't need - brakes, guards etc.

scrub clean

use them on turbo

Or get a spin bike or the old watt bike.

If your wife hasn't a bike hiw serious is she about indoor cycling. It's a lot harder and less fun than outdoors.

I have my ‘summer bike’ set up on the turbo all winter. My better half expressed an interest in having a go so I put some tape on the Seat post where she has it and then I just raise it back up when I go on. Really easy setup with minimal faff. She’s probably 3-4” shorter than I am.
