Hugely busy week for me, but thought I'd leave this here. Apologies as always for my laziness for not linking procycling stats.

Too close to call really. I think Cancellara probably gets the nod though. On just classics I would favour Boonen.

Surely all those Tour of Qatar GC wins give it to Boonen...

    Boonen just.

Unless you think World TT champs are worth counting.

They are. As are the two Olympic gold medals.

    But they're TTs.

That's what, a third of an RR?

Which would give him a third of a World Championship more than Boonen.

What value do we place on days in Yellow.

    Boonen just.

I think you'll have to show your workings.

Not a lot. They were just a by-product of winning the prologue. There wasn’t a lot of defending required,

  • Has Cancellara anything on his palmares that can compete with Boonen's lucrative range of meat product endorsements?

    I think not.

Boonen's retirement has been so much classier than Canc's who has - let's be honest - been a bit of a pr1ck about it...

    Boonen.

    3 RvV
    4PR
    1 Worlds RR

    (so 7 Classics, 1 worlds).

    1 Green Jersey

    17 semi classics.

    6 TdF stages.

    Total GT stages: 14
    Total 1 day races: 42
    Total pro Wins: 117

    Cancellera
    1MSR
    3 RvR
    3PR

(so 7 classics, no worlds - Boonen on top here).

0 TdF jerseys taken to paris (Boonen on top here).

6 semi classics (Boonen on top here)

7 TdF Stages (1 more than Boonen)

Total GT Stages: 21 (plenty more than boonen)
Total 1 day races: 35 ( considerably less than boonen).
Total Pro wins: 77 ( loads less than Boonen).

    Stuff he's won boonen hasn't.

    4 worlds TTs.
    2 Olympics TTs.

So Boonen is considerably more prolific a winner overall, in one day races, has won more top top tier one day races.

    Boonen isn't a TTer.

    But that's my workings.

Pretty much equal for me, loathe as I am to count TTs I suppose I have to but Boonen's classic count is well ahead. Cancellara is the better TTer but Boonen is the better road racer.

He did have 'Monument' - A Fragrance by Fabian Cancellara

You'd have to say that Cancellara's MSR that sprinter Boonen never won is worth more than Boonen's 4th PR

And 4 World TT titles must be worth more than 1 World RR title

And while he didn't take a jersey to Paris, 29 days in yellow (more than Fignon, Lemond or Contador) must be worth more than 1 novelty jersey

And 7 more GT stages must be worth more than some Belgian chippers Fabian watched on TV

And 1 Tirreno Adriatico and 1 Tour De Suisse must be worth more than 4 Qatars?

    And 2 Olympics

    And Tom is bald.

    This.

Although as I like Tom better, he gets my vote.

Isn't it "monuments" and "classics", rather than "classics" and "semi-classics"? Omloop, Gent-Wevelgem etc are bona-fide classics, no semi about them (Ride London etc there might be more of a debate about...)

    Monument > Classic > Semi class > 3/4 race

I may have skipped a couple out.
