157km, one cat 4 climb early doors followed by a flat run in to Messina. One for the sprinters' today, can't see the sprint trains letting a breakaway take it. Or will Nibali put on a show for his home town?

Today's PTP opinion poll has Greipel's Gorilla party (50%) with a five point lead over Ewan's Tyrelicker party (45%). Support for Gaviria has completely evaporated (not a single vote).

Alas, a combination of incompetence, a mobile phone and fat fingers means the map and profile ain't happening. So I shall paint a picture with words... Down, then up, down again, up, down, flat with bumpy bits, the end

    Quelle surprise!
CCC and GazProm are in the break, 1'49" gap already. Went at 0.2km.
Evgeny Shalunev (GazProm) and Maciej Paterski (CCC)

    Amazing isn't it?
Only 2 men could be arsed to make the effort to get into the break and we get the whole stage live.

12km to go. All together. No dominate team at the front, but it's quick.

    Tailwind innit.

Or the modern fashion for GC riders to bring their whole team to the front.

Oh dear Pibernik. Celebrates victory one lap early and even manages to fail on the no hands bit.

Had a good chuckle at that. Got to do something to liven it up for us!

Luka Pibernik TBM sprints to the line! Holds his hands in the air, only to look back and see the peloton still together as he's got another 6km lap to do!

    Gaviria takes it.

    Ewan boxed in, gave up.

    Greipel 4th

Absolutely nobody picked Gaviria for PTP today which I thought was odd.

Joelsim thought it was very odd when I dropped him from Team My Man.

I just thought that Orica would get their sh*t together... clearly not.

I don't think Orica's lead out train could cope with the slightly technical approach.

French TV making an interesting point about how Ewan started sprinting when he saw Pibernik going for the line - a sign of ineperience and lack of understanding of the parcours in the final. Maybe something there.

Yep. Inexperienced sprinter without a full team behind him. Orica's team is split between mountain folks for Adam and lead-out guys for Ewan so they don't have a full contingent to put to service on the sprint stages, which might explain why they haven't taken control on the days I thought they would have.

I was having kittens when they were charging through those crowds, standing in the road.
A miracle that we didn't have a pile up.
Quite a lucky Giro in this respect so far.

Gaviria has raced of the rust and he's now looking the part.
Jakob Mareczko was absolutely flying over that final 100 metres.
Ewan looking like a boy against men.

Looks like Sbaragli got a nasty bang to his side from someone in the crowd - he says they were taking a selfie.
