Chamois cream is not gender-specific, if that's what you were alluding to with your opening comment.0 -
are OK sorry thought it was lol0

Presumably you're training for this ? I don't normally use chamois cream - but I might for a particularly long ride.0

Why do you need to raise £1500 to make it work, as per your Just Giving page?0 -

Hi its a charity bike ride for Alzheimers organised by them to get sponsorhip so the mimum amount of sponsorship that you can make to get your place is £1500
Obviously the more I make the better as its in memory of my mum and I am trying to help people in the future get more support and help.
THanks Phil0 -

At the risk of sounding callous, it's a trip to Paris for you paid for by other people's sponsorship, unless of course you have chucked in the first £1K out of your own funds.
I've no doubt your intentions are honourable, but why not do a self-supported ride with all monies going to the charity?0 -

Yes it is sounding Callous the cost of the trip is covered in the sponorship yes but its also giving novice riders the help and support that they need to do such an event plus still raising over £1000 per person and I havent left it at that point and i am now on over £2600. and it is making a difference.0 -
The OP is a novice trying a big challenge. No doubt taking the time to train for the challenge is a big enough personal commitment without the time and effort required to plan a self supported trip.
As none of us know the OPs personal situation, perhaps we should refrain from criticism of his fundraising choices, and focus on his actual query.0 -

I'm calling a little bit of bs here as with all 'justgiving' chugging.Nothing to stop you raising the funds yourself for the trip and then raise sponsorship for your chosen charity separately.
That would stop anyone from accusing you of having a nice little jolly all expenses paid for at other people's expense.
Yes, the ride is a nice little jolly actually.
Bit like these corporate w anker rides that sometimes end up on Eurosport in the name of ''racing' for charidee... you just dont see a poor management accountant.
I sponsored a local rider who I know from racing, who rode 240 freezing Welsh kms in January non stop for Alzheimers.0 -

Your missing the point the whole post was about Chamois cream or no Chamois cream and on the back of it hoping that some people may be happy to help a charity. And yes for some people it may be a jolly. for me its a serious challenge and also is the memory of my mum whom I lost to the disease last year. I am not a seasoned cyclist, I am having to train really hard to get fit for this. And I would have no idea of how to plan a trip like this or have the skills to fix my bike if anything major went wrong with it. So get off your high horse and butt out if your not interested in just answering the question put to the group for advice.0 -
Go with the chamois cream. On longer rides, with several hours in the saddle I find it very good. I've only ever used the Assos one, so can't offer any advice on alternatives.
Good luck0 -

Are they happy knowing that some of their donation pays for your Eurostar tickets? Your hotel room?
Ride four long loops from your house, north south east and west, home each night. If your bike fails, get a taxi or train home.
People would still donate, and you would maximise your donation to your chosen charity.0 -

Chamois cream is a must for me, I use the Assos stuff which is great.
Don't worry what some people say; you'll notice he just had to say that he 'races'.
Have a good ride.0 -

Why didn't you just give money to Alzheimers because it's a charity you want to support?0
