Route advice Dudley to Leighton Buzzard!

This is obviously one of the classic routes, so I'm hoping there will be plenty of local knowledge! 
I'm planning a charity ride in memory of my wife who died five years ago on the 25th of March. I'm going to ride from her parent's home in Dudley to my home near Leighton Buzzard. I know the first and last little bits of the route and which roads will be best, but there is a 100km gap in the middle. I can plan an automatic route on my garmin, but I have no idea what the roads are like for cycling.
I'm not a super fit racing snake, so I'm trying to find a shortish, flattish, quietish route between West Heath in Birmingham and Buckingham (I can cover the start finish bits). Anyone with local knowledge?
