Rear mech advice for Giant TCX

Just got the Giant TCX SLR 2 with 105 is this going to take the abuse compared to say shimano SLX with the shadow plus clutch mechanism or am I worrying to much.
Too many bikes according to Mrs O.

    Why you mention the slx? you cannot use it! (well you can get a shift mate but...) if you are only on cyclocross you have no problem with the 105.

    I mentioned slx as that's what's on my xc mtb. I'll just stick some extra tape on chain stay for now.

  • Anything which rips your mech off will probably rip another mech off. Tape it, then buy another cheap 105 if it gets ripped off. Buy another hanger in advance.

    I have a 105 rear mech its survived 2 seasons of racing.

    Not uncommon in some race conditions for atleast a dozen mechs to brake though. (Out of about 80 who race the league)
  • 105 10 speed or 11? If it's 10 speed you can use a 9 speed MTBike derailleur

    Cheers Ugo it's 105 / 11 speed, I've accepted that the 105 will do after giving it a few outings. I'm just going to make the gearing easier instead, fitting 34 bottom ring and potentially a 11/32 cassette with a new longer deraileur as current on is only a short one.
