Ok, now the dust has settled on that one, has anyone had any success negotiating with sky for a better deal? Ive been with them for many years so lots of customer loyalty. With the standard package plus HD and sky sports im paying £71 per month. Which when i think about it is quite a lot. Dont want internet off them as im very happy with my provider. Just a reduction in my monthly charge would be nice. Anyone managed to get this?

HD with sport and movies for £30 (internet is a different bill), essentially played hardball when leaving, within a week of having Sky stopped I had that offer on the phone and was happy to take it.

Haven't had Sky for two years and don't miss it. Went off football years ago and only really watch American Football and Ice Hockey and the NFL/NHL allow me to do that online if I want. Never watch 'normal' telly cos it's sh*t - if I want to watch something specific I'll download it or use the iPlayer. Eurosport player for 20 quid for the whole year is a bargain - however, am I missing a trick with the Bike channel? I've never seen anything on it - is it any good, and more pertinently, is there any way I can get it online, say for a small subscription?

Just had a marathon session with the sky advisor. As if by magic a deal is available because i am such a valued customer. Saving me £20 a month. Perhaps i could have got better but will settle for that...

Erm bike channel. Not sure how you get it other than sky but i guess its ok. Not hd and picture quality seems average. At the moment there are quite a few races going on and they are showing repeats of the tour down under. Lots of travelogue stuff. My impression is that i can do without it unless it is showing stuff not available elsewhere...
  • Bike had Het Volk highlights last year I believe.

Having written that, I mean Het Nieuwsblad 2016, not Het Volk from 2009 or something
  • Bike channel is currently available to all on freesat, no subscription needed.
They had a lot of live cycling last year, picking up virtually all the Belgian racing missed by Eurosport.
BC also have the CC live, so they must have some deal with Sporza.
They had a number of stage races, too, but just can't find anything relating to this year's coverage.

You can watch Bike on your Sky box, it is free to air so you can watch it as you would the Beeb on Sky -no active subscription required.
  • BIKE will have a bit less this year as Eurosport in UK are claiming to have exclusively all six Flanders Classics races as well as the two diddy North American ones.

On Eurosport Player, they don't seem to be able to have full programme of the Dubai Tour on demand. Not sure if this is a rights issue or what. Annoyingly what they do have is 2 min highlights, which is a bit crap but even crapper is the fact they have labelled the video with a spoilerific stage winner description. I had yesterday ruined and I checked again today to see if yesterday was added in full, but no. They had added the sprint from today though, again labelled with the winner.
  • Please, Please, Please tell me all those race,s do not carry Carlton Kirby,
He,s ruined the cycling for me.
    A complete and utter prat..

A complete and utter prat admittedly but his commentaries have grown on me to the point where everyone else pales into insignificance...

I think kirby and liggett would make a star combination...
  • Hatch is doing the Dubai Tour with Brian Smith

It's Matt Keenan & Phil Liggett for the Sun Tour. So I would assume The Kirbster will be on Spanish stage race duty (is it the old Ruta del Sol?)

Yes and nope. It's still the old Vuelta Ciclista a la Comunidad Valenciana.

Eurosport last year used the international comms from the Cadel race but this time around they stuck Kirby /Stephens on instead, despite the 2-day delay in transmission (unless it was live on ES Player?). Considering they're showing it all week, I'd have thought they'd use their own guys, be it K/S or H/S on overtime or the dusting down of Quigley / Backstedt - time will tell. 3.30pm today I think.
  • The good news is that with SKY's £££s Eurosport are able to pay Kirby to commentate on *every* race for the next 25 years.

    Ha!

I'll happily watch it whoever is commentating, although I found Matt Rendell pretty tough last year

I took the hump with them over christmas as it was getting too expensive and out box was packing up, threatened to move to BT and last weekend I had a nice shiney new SkyQ silver box and a multiscreen mini box in the bedroom. All for less than I was paying before (about £50).

Still not cheap though, no movies or sports, and had to give up F1 too, which I didn't really watch anyway. But happy with SkyQ will be able to watch the Giro on my tablet at lunch :D

Have a look on Money Saving Expert site - lots of tips on how to haggle with them. 35% discount is fairly standard; or if you have the cojones to do it, cancel then sign up 24 hours later when they have sent you their "please come back have 50% off" email.

I phone them every year and get a discount, usually around the £30 per month mark. Only once have they ever accepted my cancellation, then the following day phoned me and made a deal. Every advisor has been helpful, this year I didn't even need to ask for a discount - I just asked when my contract finished, and they asked if I wanted them to look into discounts to stay.

IMO the only tip you need is to be polite, you're dealing with a human being so treat them like one. Phoning up demanding they give you a discount (lots of people do, my brother in law used to take the calls!) is never going to get anyone on your side.
  • It looks like the Bike Channel are going to be showing Rai's output of the Italian races, starting with the GP Costa Degli Etruschi, this Sunday.
    Should be on around 5pm.

    Cheers blazing
  • Just popped over to CN racing section, only to read that Eurosport have nicked the exclusive rights to all the RCS races.
Much wailing and gnashing of teeth over there as it means no more Giro on Sporza.
It also means no avoiding the flipping ad breaks, that always miss crucial action.
The only crumb of comfort is that Hatch does the Giro...............normally.

Oh and that they now have the rights to the 6 Flanders races, which I guess answers the Het Nieuwsblad question.

(Flipping lucky that Sky and Discovery kissed and made up, too!)

Ruta and Algarve both live on ES next week, albeit looks like only an hour for each on Wednesday.

Can't see Oman on anywhere, even highlights.

Some of the European Eurosport have changed their Andalucia start time from 3pm, to the usual 2-30pm start.
Meanwhile, Algarve coverage is scheduled to finish at dusk...............................

I think ES gave it a miss last year too. The races has (IIRC) never been shown live (story was it was state censorship) but there was a highlights package produced daily, but a day late.

Well, there was this claim yesterday, about Eurosport Italia having live coverage:-

    http://www.oasport.it/2017/02/tour-of-o ... fabio-aru/

However, I can't find a second source and if there is one thing we have learned about Oman, as you point out: if it turns up, it'a a day late and a dollar short.

Aww, leave CK alone. Nobody else provides pure entertainment value like he does!

Rob Hatch shows him up on a consistent basis
  • When it comes to longer races / stages I feel CK is in his element. If a basic commentary (such as that provided by Declan) is a plate of soup, CK is the buttered crusty bread roll that embellishes it. I find Rob Hatch a little lacking when he has to keep the conversation going as it's always serious. CK will go off piste when the mood demands.

Unfortunately CK ends up toast when it comes to the 'final' as Sean would have it.
