26 wins for EQS - only 1 from a Belgian.

Excellent win by Brambilla. Disappointing for Dumoulin, looked like he bonked to me but at least we were spared my fear that Zakarin would wheel suck his way into pink. Valverde made a good race of it to be fair.

Dumoulin out of the top 10 altogether, but he may well reclaim the Maglia Rosa, tomorrow.
Depends on what the problem was and how good a ITT the likes of Zakarin, Valverde or maybe even Uran can produce.
Still not sure where Nibali is on the form graph.

Nibali lost 3 seconds on his rivals in the final metres, as a gap opened up. Bit sloppy. Wonder who he'll blame for that one?

How do you lose 55mins on a 4.15 stage?

Good stage that. Pleased for Brambilla getting the win and the jersey, and pleased that (though I'm not exactly a fan) Valverde and Movistar had a go at lighting things up relatively early on up the Alpe.

Get dropped in the opening 30 kms, never get back on.

Given that Brambilla is only 1'56 down on GC, I'm bemused why he would go in the break

    maybe he wants the jersey?

Realistically he should never have been given the time in the break. A bit of a fail given he can climb.

You think Brambilla is going to threaten the top 10?

My thoughts were that only Giant would have been motivated to chase but Dumoulin wasn't having a good day. So far Astana, Movistar and others haven't been driving the pace that much on the non-sprint days.

Well he did last year at the Vuelta, only falling away right at the end. And this year he's been on fire.

It was surprising that not only was he allowed to go up the road, but allowed to stay up the road.
Possibly a Giant plan that backfired.
    Whatever.
He won't be allowed a further opportunity like that to pinch time.
Fall away in the third week of the Giro, given the duration of some of the climbs and hanging on, even at the rear of the top 10, may be a struggle.
On the other hand, the Giro does tend to produce the completely unexpected contender.
    Place your bets.
