Great turnout by the locals. Extra incentive for Kittel here? If he gets the bonus seconds on offer could he be in the pink?

Bonifications is a legit French word. English has a long history of shamelessly importing words from other languages - it's what give it its certain je ne sais quoi. Perfectly acceptable.

edit: plus it exists in American English afaiu. And that's a far more sensible version of the language anyway.

Like many things, it sounds stupid when he says it. If he was speaking French, then OK, but he's supposed to be doing an English commentary, so English would be good.

And there's no such thing as American English. There's English and there's wrong!

    Usage is the final arbiter...

No. There's English according to the OED, and then there's correct.

    Im enjoying the windmills :)

When I first moved here I got really excited about windmills for abut two weeks, now I don't even notice them and I get excited about bruggen, dijken en duinen because it means some sort of gradient!

Gradients and days with little wind... The stuff of Dutch dreams...

Of course he was. I backed him for the podium.

edit: first time i put a bet on to pass the time at work (i worked in a bookies at the time), all four selections died. There was a reason the punters in shop called me 'the jinx'.

Kittel takes it easy as you like. It was like a pro versus a couple of juniors.

when Kelly talks about cycling its legit. end of.

    Fact!

The issue of Kelly's pronunciation and use of the English language will always stir debate. I think we have to remember that he has spent more of his life speaking French, Spanish, and Flemish and is fluent in all three (if not fluent, he isn't far off) as well as a smattering of Italian and a few other languages, than he has speaking English. He could be listening to race radio in French or Flemish and having to commentate in English and that, I would imagine, takes some serious mental dexterity. Plus the "language" of cycling borrows so many words from French, in particular, that words like bidon or peloton are instantly recognisable to all fans of the sport.

Aye, he'll be using words like peloton, maglia rosa, musette and other dodgy made up words if we're not careful

What odds would you get for Amador to finish higher than Valverde I wonder?
