Gravesend to Dover, off A-roads

Hello
I'm off to Flanders with a small group of riders in Sept. Road bikes and small panniers style. I can't seem to work out the best route from Gravesend to Dover - that stays off the major A-roads. I wonder if a local can help?
We'll have GPS units, but don't want to be held to ransom over them with a million squiggly turns.
We don't mind putting the miles in - but don't want a major detour. We want to save the legs for the cobblesh!
Any routes or tips welcome. thanks.

I have done the journey and used the Saxon Shore Way to Rochester (though I understand it goes all the way around the coast to Dover and Beyond). From Rochester I tried to follow the Pilgrims Way but it was to rutted and cycled on roads via Charing to Canterbury and from there via Bridge Barham and Shepherdswell to Dover. Not the most direct route or the flattest.0
