Another 'which one' question

After years of road bikes, I fancy exploring the forests. Nothing hairy, just dirt / forest tracks & fire roads in a very lumpy part of the world. Been advised to look for a hardtail with a decent air fork. So of these three options, does anyone stand out (bar the fact that I prefer the Radon on aesthetic grounds!)

1. Radon ZR Team (E 799) http://tinyurl.com/hdn5wz9
2. Calibre Gauntlet 650B £ 599 (c E750) http://tinyurl.com/zv6htnp Seems good vfm, but unsure re the quality of the kit vs the Radon.
3. ROCKRIDER 580 (E 799) http://tinyurl.com/jxfshy5 – But French forums seems to imply that Decathlon’s 2016 range is much poorer value than last year – although at least I can try this one for size.

Or something else for E 800? the usual Lapierre / Giants etc brands seem much poorer on a price/performance level than these.

Thanks in advance

Yes, the initial release of Decathlons range looks to be less value - some of that is perception due to shifting names of bikes (the 580 is more akin to last years 560 for the initial price). But Decathlon do adjust the prices in the year so I am sure the this will come down.

On paper the ZR team does seem the best. Good wheelset.
  • Personally I also like the Radon from the three you've selected, it gets pretty sweet reviews and has a good range of components for its price bracket :)

If you want to add another possibility to the mix give the Canyon Grand-Canyon al 5.9 a look (note this is a 29er if size M+).

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Radon if I'm honest, I'm sure a few guys on here have them and have nothing but positive feedback.
