Roy Jans takes a nice sprint win today in Sluitingsprijs Putte – Kapellen. This is his last race for Wanty before moving to Wallonie-Bruxelles next year.

I thought the 2016 road-race season had finished. What with the 2017 TDF presentation and parcour anouncement last week with Lombardy, Paris-Tours long gone.
The long overdue Worlds road racing finished so I thought it safe to watch Cyclocross again with Wout Van Aert having 2 mechanical stoppages and still strong enough to get through the field twice to take the win. Then last Sunday an interesting CX race took place with Mathieu van der Poel winning his second Superprestige of the season at Zonhoven Sunday by outsprinting his long time breakaway partner the World Champion Wout Van Aert.

However this afternoon I found Eurosport Highlghts showing something called the Abu Dhabi Tour which I thought had been done last February.
OK I'm wrong as it's live this week with Cavendish getting round Viviani to win the second stage of four and the overall lead.
So what a season these sprinters have had by racing in Arabia in February and still racing there in October.

Then next month the GENT 6 day.
    These sprinters earn their crusts

Tour of Hainan was on Eurosport after Abu Dhabi, with Max Walscheid doing a Zabel as the Wilier rider nicked it on the line..

Caught the back end of the Abu Dhabi race today... lord that was boring... sorry Cav, no matter how enthusiastic you tried to sound watching a peloton do laps round an empty identikit motor racing track is not exciting or interesting...

They may as well do it on rollers it in front of a blue screen in the garage and add the backdrop afterwards.

Cav earns his appearance fee and gets another jumper for the collection.
Kiry wins, ahead of castraviejo again, in the chronos des nations.
    Japan cup finishes.

2017 Classics looking a long way off.

Have Giant-Alpecin/Team SunWeb unearthed another gem in Max Walscheid?

He's won two stages of the Tour of Hainan, and should've won the opening stage but celebrated too early and was pipped on the line. He's been touted as the future of German sprinting for some time, but has had a disrupted season as he was injured in the training camp crash that took out Degenkolb et al.

He's ended up with five stage wins, which should be good for his confidence, and the confidence of his team. It'll be interesting to see how he gets on next year with a full winter's training behind him.

    Alexey Lutsenko won the GC.

Definitely keeping me beadies on him. I know it wasn't exactly tough competition, but still.

Talking of smaller races, nice to see Sol and Algarve as 2.HC for 2017.

Its all about the bunce. Nowt else, despite the bollox spoken by Prudhomme about the ASO being a bastion of traditions in cycling

  • Cantona-stylie flying kick in cleats...surely that's a new one?
  • Must be something in the water there. The Russian in a fight against half a dozen testosterone filled yet challenged South Americans is legend.
