Dwars door het Hageland today - chipper of chippers, but Boonen's there and the parcours includes cobbles, gravel roads and a finish on the citadel in Diest. Numerous breakaways and splits, but currently Jelle Wallays, Marco Marcato and Liam Bertazzo in front.

It's looking like a decent race. Cross between Flanders and arrow Bro Leon. Lost track as been out of the room but it was 10 up front including McNally and a Madison Genesis rider leading from a small group including Terpstra. Think they may have merged now though.

Yup, all together. The Madison rider is Tom Stewart.

The farm tracks are excellent additions for a bike race.

Funny how Strade Bianche was the Italian Paris Roubaix, and now this and Schaal Sels are the Belgian Strade Bianche.

Yeah, it's a really good little race this.

Great to see Stewart up the road too.

Terpstra took it, right at the end - good race that.

Yeah, cracking finish with that 1km of cobbles on an incline too.

    Proper gritty Flemish racing.

Jelle Wallays ran it clos, but 1) Terpstra 2) Van Aert 3) Senechal.

    Tom Stewart 8th I think.

Can't think of another race with a tunnel so close to the finish.

I really enjoyed that. As far as chippers go, that's probably the best parcours I've seen for a while, although I only saw the last 20 km. Technical, many surface changes, decent scenery and racing.

Just watched the highlights of this, and echo the previous comments. Great little race with a really interesting parcours. Nice one.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

  • Think this belongs here... watched Dwars door het Hageland last night on Eurosport. Unusual course along canal towpaths and various bumpy country lanes. Won with an impressive burst up very rutted cobbled finsh by Niki Terpstra despite a spirited breakaway from Jelle Wallays. Cant't really find much coverage in English but it was a fun watch...

My man Kristoff power past Degenkolb and his jumpy gears to take stage 1 of the Arctic Race of Norway. Good to see both of them back on form... sounds like John would have taken the win were it not for mechanical issues.

Danny Van Poppel wins the sprint on stage 2 from John Degenkolb in the Arctic Race of Norway. He now takes the GC jersey leading Degenkolb by 2 secs. Kristoff @ 4 secs is in third.

A debut pro win for Gianni Moscon in the queen stage of the Arctic Race of Norway. Many more wins should follow (starting with GC tomorrow barring incident)

If you enjoyed Hageland, then its Schaal Sels tomorrow - another Belgian chipper with gravel sections. A reinvigorated parcours last year and some rubbish weather lead to some of this:

    and this:

Starts at 11 CET tomorrow. Oh, and the winner gets a cow.

It's Nico Mattan's cow apparently, so bound to be full of something.

Having just caught up with yesterday's (first) stage of the Tour des Fjords which finished in Bergen, hopefully the route for next year's world championships will be better organised; first the peleton was sent the wrong way and then a hairy ride through the wet streets of central Bergen where it appeared life had been going on as normal before traffic was pulled aside just minutes before the race passed through. French commentators on L'Equipe21 not impressed.

That was an exciting wee finish.

Great to see the Scottish technical term "bawhair" being used in the forum.

Gaviria just schooled by Timothy Dupont in some shoot, small Belgian race.

    Joelsim will not be happy.
