Suspicious noise and little play in rear wheel ??

Hi all,

Recently, during last two rides I noticed suspicious noise coming from (well as far as I managed to establish) rear wheel.

It particularly occurs when rolling down at speed (while not pedalling), therefore I excluded reara mech and am thinking it might be a rear wheel / hub bearings etc.

Also, when I grab rear wheel (when still mounted on bike) at 9-3o'clock and wiggle it a bit it has very little play (not massive but you can feel it).

Same is with the cassette when I grab it with my fingers and wiggle it a bit same as the rear wheel.

The bike is an Anthem X2 2013.

Any thoughts here guys ??

Any other ways I can check rear hub bearings ??

Many thanks,

Chris

Do you have some cone spanners and make sure the axle is tight and not loose which usually causes the small movement that your describing.

Could be that the freehub is knackered and causing the problem as you mention its more the gears side.

taking the wheel out you will notice if the cups and cones are loose as you will be able to feel any play spinning the wheel in your fingers.
