New wheels for Spectral 650b - Hope Enduro or Easton Heist

Hello,
I'm looking for new wheels for my 2015 Spectral 650b to replace the existing Roam 30s. I've narrowed the decision down to either Hope Pro 4 Tech Enduro or Easton Heist. I ride mainly Bristol trails, Cwmcarn, Afan and BPW.
Hope's seem heavy and relatively narrow? Easton's maybe not so reliable or maintainable?
With the Eastons, what rim width? Would the Canyon take 27mm our 30mm rims?
Any thoughts gratefully received - this decision is driving me mad!

I'd go with the 30mm eastons. its not going to make any real difference to the tyre width.0

If you go for Easton check that spares available first. It used to be really difficult to get parts for them.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

you get 5 spokes with each wheel and silverfish have cassette bodies in stock0 -
or go for a custom wheel build using the hope pro 4 hubs, stans flow ex rims etc?
hopes are 24.5mm wide so should get a large size tyre on those?0 -
Go custom build is the answer.
I have just gone Velocity Blunt 35 on Hope hubs I have H + Sons Todestreib on Hope on my 29er (32mm wide). Having ridden some ridiculously wide (incl. Fat) rims and spent years on 28mm Mavic EN521s I'm very happy that I've found a sweetspot (for me and the tyres I run) in the 30-35mm range.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

What are the reasons for wanting to change your current wheels?
Is it to save weight?
Get better wheels?
As I'm currently looking to change mine also (650b) and am looking at the Roam 50's, I looked at the Hope etc. options and although could obviously spec to my choice they still seemed to be quite a weighty wheel.0 -

I've run a variety. Currently I have XR Team Mud on the Blunts and Spec Storm Control on the Todestreibs as it's so wet and muddy down here. Last summer I ran 2.2 WTB Trail Boss (which come up quite large) on the Ts and will experiment with the Blunts with the usual summer rubber (WTB Mutano or TB) and some other stuff. There's a trend for trying to run massively wide tyres which I'm not seeing the benefit of at the moment, where they win for me is squaring off the profile much more so that the edge grip is absolutely brilliant. Lower pressures (min 5psi less both ends without burping) also work well although it very quickly gets to the point where they can roll a little too much so there's a bit of experimentation to be had.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

After much debate I've finally made a purchase.
Ruled out Eastons - too worried about whether they'd handle the mud and crap - riding twice weekly in all weathers. Don't want to risk downtime. Couldn't find any long term reviews - too new.
Ruled out Flow Ex's - Relatively heavy and many stories of dings and dents being issues.
Bought Hope Pro 2 w/ EX471 rims. Got a good deal on hand built pair. My old bike has same hub which was very reliable if a little noisy! EX471's (same rim as EX1501 I believe) get good reviews, lighter than Flow's, by all accounts less dingable.Canyon Spectral 7.0ex 2015

They're not comparable rims. The EX471 is quite narrow at 25mm whereas the Flow EX is 29mm. The EX is a glorified XC rim, and therefore actually perfectly good for what most people ride, but the Flow is much more robust if you really start bouncing them around.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

From my reading of the specs they are almost identical widths:

25mm isn't really narrow for an internal width. And yes, the 29mm refers to the external, not internal width. There's a 0.5mm difference between the internal widthsCurrent fleet

Whoops, my mistake - they are indeed. I remembered the internal width as overall from when I was looking, just been back to check. Apologies.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

my bro inlaws eastons have been issue free in the mud around glasgow, glentress and inners but you've made a good choice there.0 -
