Recommendations for iPad apps?

I have a basic trainer, an Elite Chrono fluid thing. This winter I will do more indoor work. The bike cave has wifi and I have an iPad. Up to now, sessions have been measured by time and sweat volume.

If I fit a basic bluetooth speed and cadence sensor to talk to the iPad, what recs are there for iPad apps for
A) speed and distance info
B) any more interesting ride video type things?

Thinking bluetooth to keep it simple and cheap, rather than introducing ANT+ technology on top. My Garmin is a satnav only Edge605, I'm not too fussed about HR, power and that.

    Trainer Road /end thread :)

Seriously take a look at www.trainerroad.com you can hook up a speed sensor to your wheel and that will be converted by some magical formula thing to power output and you use that to do your workouts.

The Wahoo SC sensor is probably going to be best as it works with bluetooth.

Sufferfest videos are good and they work with Trainer Road.
  • If you don't want to go spending $$$ then a good way to go about things is through "ride with me" styles videos on youtube.

Here's a plug to one I've created recently.

Things like this keep me motivated and focused for an hour session or so. Normally done twice weekly, in conjunction with a HR monitor to gauge effort.

The GCN youtube videos are surprisingly inspiring. Although you do need heartrate to get the best out of them unless you're really good at pacing using RPE which I am not.

  • I have been using wattSys by turbotraining (www.turbotraining.co.uk)

They have videos, structured workouts and also you can plot a course and ride it. I had trouble finding the app, but support team let me know to search for "wattsys" in the app store.
