Hello.

Im looking to fit one of Shimanos new Sideswing front mechs to my 2013 Zesty in order to eliminate the painfully bad front mech cable routing Lapierre thought was a good idea, including a tight right angle and 180 degree turn and pointing the cable up into the line of all the crud off the rear wheel.

Has anyone used a 11 speed front mech on a 9 speed drive train? Does it work ok or does the chain rub in too many combinations?

The XT mech talks about a 48.8mm chain line while the xtr version doesnt mention this. Is it a problem?

Thanks for any help,

Not 11sp but tried a 10sp front mech on a 9sp set up and although shifting was crisp there was some bizarre chain rub going on and not just at the extremes. Tiny adjustments made big differences. IIRC the 10sp mech had a kind of spring-loaded bumper thing in the cage that didn't help

    Goodbye front mech hello 1x9
  • Thanks, decided to wait until my rear mech, cassette and chain die. The mech is on its last legs then ill go 1x10
