Seriously Gutted :(

Well this is my first post and just wanted to introduce myself. Everyone calls me Cockney kev up here in manchester, only because born and bred in southeast london. I got started mountain biking several months ago, and was fortunate to get myself a specialised hardrock 2014 for £120 from cash generators. The reason for the purchase is because in 2011 my partner gave birth to my stillborn son Nathan scott (nicknamed bruiser) because he kept on waking me up in the middle of the night. The loss put me over the edge. I gained weight, started having problems with my knee as well as circulatory problems, and when I had to go for an MRI I actually had to be weighed. I almost died almost 24 stone. I could not believe it ! The physiotherapist said I needed to keep my knee active, and recommended cycling as there's less pressure on the knee. Hence the purchase. which I had to scrimp and save, because I'm a full time carer for my missus as she suffers with severe depression and agoraphobia.

I was cycling every where I went and I was proud of that bike, I upgraded the mechs to sram x4's changed the shifters, replaced the mechanical brakes with hydraulics. I was able to do this because I sold my xperia z4,and I kept on pushing myself just that little further. The maximum I've cycled is from Denton to Cheetham hill via collyhurst, and I was aiming to do the manchester to blackpool nightride in memory of my father who died of bone cancer in 2006. But then I said to the missus that I needed to go out of my way when it came to the shopping so I said I'll cycle to asda in hyde, but upon being in there must have been 30 minutes, I returned to the bike stand outside the entrance to find my bike gone but both my locks on the floor Cut :( I spoke with the security staff who said that cctv does not cover the bike stand, and I got in contact with tameside CCTV operations control room who said that cctv in hyde has been down due to upgrading the system. :( The kicker is.... The bike was doing it's work for me because since cycling I have cut down on my food intake, reduced smoking, and because my partners mother runs a diet group in which we all pay a pound a week and the winner gets half the money but I'm at a weight of 21.11 stone.. The health issues I have still reside with me. I'm having to take the maximum zapain/cocodamol of 8 a day whereas when I was cycling I was taking one in the morning and one in the evening. But because I'm walking into denton to do the shopping which would normally take me 10 minutes to cycle to the centre, it's taking me 40 minutes now. :( As it stands right now I'm hobbling about using a frigging hospital crutch.

I've set up a gofundme page because I know that it's highly unlikely that I'll ever see my bike again, but because of having 2 kids and looking after my missus 24/7 it's been seriously difficult to save up again. Especially with such short a time frame ( https://www.gofundme.com/bh48sah2 )Any help in me achieving this would be sincerely appreciated.

I will say for all us big guys who are considering getting a mountain bike and wondering will it hold your weight. Yes, I can honestly say that when I first cycled to cheetham hill via collyhurst. yes it was a long trek, but the sense of achievement afterwards WOW..

  • Not a single response to this, fair enough I only joined the site today, but that's disappointing. I am gutted for you losing your bike after everything else you have been and are going through.

I am going to donate, It wont be much, but its what i can afford (after buying my own bike). I hope you get back to cycling again soon!

Kelvin, if even half your story is true then you have my sympathy.

Your fund is now up to £30. That'll buy you a 2nd hand basic bike from ebay. There's hundreds on there, and on that you can carry on with getting fit. I've been using a crappy old Harlem for 10+ years. It was all I could afford. I don't mean to sound harsh, but as the saying goes... "Beggars Can't Be Choosers"

    From your fund page...

A good friend has said that he will sell me his voodoo bizango 29er mountain bike for 170 as it's for a good cause. so if I can make £170 then I can do the manchester to blackpool night ride.

Why can't he lend it to you when the time comes. If he's that good a friend, why can't he give it to you gratis? Surely he knows your circumstances?

Oh come on! Don't give any of your hard earned to this. I've been on the internet since 14.4k modems when the internet was lawless, before the accountants got hold of it and this just screams of scam.

They havent even revisited to thank anyone or even try and dispell the doubts being cast at them.

Lets see a photo of 'Cockney Kev' on his crutches in front on the supermarket or even better, one of him, his mate and the voodoo he's been promised for £170, anything to back up the story.

If this turns out to be real, I'll eat an omelette made of my own hair.

I work hard for my money. You can be sure I won't be giving any of it to this. But, I don't like to dismiss a hard luck storey just because it doesn't smell right. A Google for Kelvin Stanley does bring up a few suspect results, and his love of social networking puts me off instantly as I hate Twitter / Facebook etc. Public grieving has never appealed to me, whether genuine or just plain attention seeking (or scrounging).

I support some charities which are close to my heart for reasons I wont divulge... BHF, Cancer Research, St Luke Hospice, St Johns, Salvation Army, and of course... Cats Protection League. They've all benefited from my limited means. Kelvin will never be on my list, but if he's genuine, then I wish him well.

Well, the Bizango has turned into an Aizan, but it doesn't matter as it's gone....

well it's a no go for the 170 bike as that voodoo aizan is now gone.. but ah well. something will hopefully get sorted as soon as possible.

...and the 'fund' is now up to £340. The 'target' has also gone up. Now it's £900!

Why didn't I think up something like this when I was looking for a new bike?
