Do I need post mount adaptors???
Hi Just bought the Shimano RS685/BR785 Hydraulic brake set up. Will be running 160mm rotors but not sure how you ensure the caliper is set correctly on the post mount? Manual mentions adaptors but cant find anything for sale other than post to IS adaptors and these seem to be for MTBs rather than road use. Help!!!

The need for post mount adaptors depends on the orientation of the caliper mounting bosses on your frame
If the bosses are such that the mounting bolts are fixed parallel to the plane of the wheel then you won't need adaptors. eg like this
If your frame has the mounting bosses at right angles to the plane of the wheel, then you need the IS adaptors to enable you to fit the brake calipers - like this
With either set-up you adjust the position of the caliper usually by doing up the mounting bolts until they are finger tight then applying the brake to effectively lock the caliper in position - then tighten the mounting bolts while the caliper is locked in place with the brake pads. This should ensure that it is lined up properly with the disc.0 -
In addition to the above I would check what diameter disc the frame is built for, some road bikes are made for 140mm discs. You can fit larger discs but will need an adaptor to do so even if your frame is post mount.
If your frame is post mount for 160mm discs you are good to go without adaptors.0 -
Cheers Guys
I assume I do need an adaptor for the rear - please see attached link for Condor Fratello Disc.

Yes - you will need an adaptor for the rear as the mounting bosses are a right angles to the plane of the rear wheel. You can see the adaptor in place on the image of the rear drop-out area in your link.
The image of the front fork shows that the caliper mounts are parallel to the plane of the wheel so no adaptor is needed.
Not sure if you have already bought your disc brakes yet but I would check with Shimano to see if the adaptors are included.
I know when I bought and fitted my TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes earlier this year they came already supplied with two adaptors, one for 140mm rotors and one for 160mm rotors0
