the pedal stroke isnt out of the ordinary, the cadence looks close to the rest of the riders in that bunch, the point is its delivering noticeably more power up a climb, to be able to create about 3-4 second gap over such a short distance, for seemingly no cost in extra effort as Femke just kept on increasing the gap up the next part, whilst you can see some of the other riders already look to be struggling in the red zone keeping up.

Ive only seen that kind of power difference for real when you get the likes of pro rider who can track sprint or climb,up against a group of cat 2s or junior riders. in Femkes case she was pulling that as the junior back on the pro riders.

Maybe she's just a great climber but you'd think she would have to get out of the saddle for that power ?

    Unless she had motor assistance..

Yes it looks suspicious, she clearly has bags more power than everyone else.

What I'm saying is the pedal stroke looks normal because she's using a pedal assist system not a riding to the shops e-bike or motorbike which you just press and go.

Basically what awavey says - taken on its own it just looks like she's riding, the bike looks pretty normal. It's the way she leaves everyone else for dust while looking cool as a cucumber which makes it dodgy.

This came up because sherer said "it didn't look like the bike was being controlled by a motor, and the pedal stroke didn't look out of the ordinary" - I was just pointing out that it wouldn't look out of the ordinary in that way because the system she is using assists her natural pedal stroke.

I don't doubt she was using it either.

I see Gaimon has doubled down on his Cancellara comments. What an idiot. Even if you share his opinions, when lawyers are involved it obvious you shut up and let them deal with it.

He’s either an idiot - as you say, very naive.... or...he’s angling for a televised audience with the legend, the myth... the man who was once known as ‘Clasicómano Luigi’ (before it turned out to be Dekker).
Gaimon is trying to be candid like Landis but without the doping history.
Cancellara always let himself down (in my view) by taking his own legend too seriously - perilously close to referring to himself in the 3rd person.

I think that was a joke.

He needs to let Penguin deal with it. But as he's slammed shut the gentlemanly opportunity Cancellara offered, they'll quite likely cut him adrift.

You know Boonen cramped up, right?

    ...
Hell a fresh me would have been able to put a good 10 seconds into Boonen had I arrived at that steep bit with him. He almost parks it.

No I didn't know that, if he says so it would explain it, it's not apparent from the TV shots. Don't agree he almost grinds to a halt he just looks to be throwing everything at keeping with Cancellara.

Here's Zonneveld putting it quite succinctly. Doesn't need much translation.

    Snel = fast

    Langzaam = slow.

    Zonneveld on it this week:

Devolder a year later was just as fast and Kelderman a couple years later in the Eneco tour rode it almost 10 seconds faster.

Cancellara didn't ride idiotically fast on the Muur; Boonen was slow (literally "stood parked").

yeah I was certainly expecting it to look more abnormal or out of the ordinary rather than just a normal pedal stroke.

love the idea you can pedal up wet 20% cobbled climbs like the Koppenberg and the Muur standing up now...

Did the van Driesches make magical tyres out of the budgies?

According to a guy here http://forum.cyclingnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=7871 Boonen's time up there was not that slow, but Cancellara's was fast.

You really need to reliable timings - Cancellara vs not only Boonen but Gilbert and perhaps timings from other years from other editions to know if what he did was stretching credibility. If he did cramp up it would help explain it and our perception of Cancellara's speed is relative to the rider(s) around him right enough.

Yeah, but he's taking just the small section where Cancellara is accelerating and then comparing it to riders who were riding at a more steady tempo

Best comment on that thread is Cancellara had more form because his tan was deeper.

It's not really the tan but the tan-line that should evidence the form.

If Cancellara hasn't kept records and receipts to prove what was inside that bike in 2010, I think we can take it as a clear indication that it contained whatever we can imagine it did

Draft Animals is an absolute belter of a book: honest, humble and self depreciating, but above all it's funny.

I read it in one sitting yesterday; it's streets ahead of all the ghost written shite put out by other pros.

One of my favourite quotes is a footnote:

"When someone attacks on a climb, we often refer to it as 'swinging your dick around'. When I swung my dick around in the World Tour, it hit my upper thigh."

Is this for real? Le Canard Enchaîné is like The Onion. It's a satrical newspaper.

If it is real. I might actually finally give up on cycling. What would be the point in watching?

Canard Enchainé is a satirical newspaper in France but often breaks serious news and has scoops on politics, investigations etc. We'll see what tomorrow's paper has to say
“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!
