Yes, here's my Charge Duster. Pic is from when I'd just built her; it's much dirtier now
Rockshox SIDs
Full SLX groupset
Mavic XC717 on XT hubs (hand built by me!). Nobby Nics
Crank Bros stem bars and post
It's now 1x10 with a Raceface NW ring
Nice, love that colour! Can't make my mind up on steel frames. It's what I had growing up, as most people did, but they just look so skinny!Daddy, Husband, Designer, Biker, Gamer, Geek

Posted my bikes before but thought they would be more at home on this thread.
My first one up is my Old Red, my Merlin Malt 2 which I bought from Merlin Cycles in 2003, although the only parts that still exist from 2003 are the frame, forks, shifters and front brake.
Now the details.
Frame - Merlin Malt 2. It didn't come with any decals as Merlin didn't have any left at the time and said they would sent them out to me later but they never came. Not to worry though as I kind of liked the clean frame.
Forks - Marzocchi Bomber MX Pro
Drivetrain - Shimano XT
Wheels - Mavic717 rims on Hope hubs with Hope skewers wrapped in Panracer Fire XC Pro 2.1 tyres
Brakes - Magura Julie
Seatpost - Thomson Elite with Hope Clamp and SDG saddle
Headset - Hope
Stem - Easton EA50, although I now have a Thomson on there
Bars - Easton EC70 flats, now have Easton EC90 flats
Grips - Race Face Good n Evil
Next up will be my Rock Lobsters
Cheers and thanks for looking
Below is a photo of my Rock Lobster Team Tig SL just over a year ago before I got hit by a car
As all of my Hope bits were gold and it seemed that they had stopped doing gold components so I had to choose a different colour scheme for the rebuild. I went with purple. The original yellow Rock Lobster decals would no longer work so I had a custom set made up in purple, I added my initials for that extra custom touch (Rock Lobster SV)
This next photo is how it looks now
Frame - Rock Lobster Team Tig SL
Forks - Marzocchi Bomber MX Pro
Drivetrain - Full XT
Brakes - Hope with purple floating rotors
Wheels - Hope rims on hope hubs with hope skewers wrapped in Onza XIII tyres
Headset - Hope
Stem - Thomson Elite
Bars - Easton EC90 although these have since been replaced with Joystick 8 bit Alloys
Seatpost - Thomson with Hope clamp
Saddle - Sella Italia Flite
Grips - Odi Ruffion
Pedals - Crank brothers egg beater

Frame - Rock Lobster Team Titanium
Forks - Kinesis Rigid
Drivetrain - Full XT
Brakes - Hope Mono Mini

Not the best photo but I already love this bike, will throw a better photo up at some point.

Mechanically it's standard spec....
Avid db3 brakes
Mavic cross ride wheels
Hutchinson Python rubber
SRAM x7 /x9
Fizik seat
Manitau marvel pro 100mm fork
11.5 kg for med (mine is small but not weighed her)
bits I've added to suit my preferences include...
Micro bar ends (like to adjust my position and find them good for climbs)
Cheap imported pedals but they're grippy & light.
X2 bottle cages (can't fit a bottle in the seat post one so I'll use it for tools)
Cateye wireless speedo.
XLC quick release seat post clamp (couldn't believe it came with Alan key one!)
Enduroguard front & rear mudguards.
Ass saver, Timbuktu 2 Saddlebag, Knog front & leyzene rear lights
Lots of frame protector clear stickers!

Only mod I'll consider is going tubeless???
Slightly better photo as promised

Here's mine - 2015 Carrera Kraken, not much original left on it now though.
Spec as follows:
Frame/headset/forks all stock
Shimano XTR m970 crankset, BB, shifters and cables
XT front and rear mechs (3x9) m785 brakes and XT rotors
Shimano DX SPD pedals
Hope hoops - Stans Arch Ex on pro II straight pull hubs
Hope headset spacers and head doctor
Superstar seatpost, signature saddle. Seat QR and 50mm Zephyr stem
Bontrager 720mm bars, ODI Vans grips
Maxxis Ikons running tubeless
It's a very different beast to the stock bike right now, I feel the forks are letting it down over the test of the components, if I were to change them I'd probably need to fit a hope 'H' bottom cup to fit some tapered forks, if I go to that extent then it's not that much of a stretch, or that much more work, to get (for example) a 45650b frame and swap the good bits over, rebuilding the Kraken with the stock bits.0 -
resurrected the Scandal, currently shod with the fox Alps though may lob some rigid's on instead. As it is there its around 8Kg

- Nukeproof Warhead 800mm Bars (Trimmed to 760mm)
- Answer XC Stem
- FUNN Locking Grips

Here's something different... My Nakamura Complite 27.5. Here in France, Nakamura is a brand exclusive to Intersport stores. The Complite series is their more serious range. They come with more up-to-date geometry and very good spec for the price, coming with with SLX/Deore mix, RS XC32 solo air fork, Mach1 NeoDisc wheels and Avid DB1 brakes.
I have upgraded it to XT with SLX cranks, RS SID RL 100mm fork and XT tubeless wheels with Maxxis Ardent tubeless tyres. Crank Bros Candy clipless pedals. After some years away from bikes, and being a long term Kona fan, I am amazed at the way this bike rides and handles. It's just shy of 11kg as it is. XT brakes and better bars, stem etc will come soon. So will be under 10.5kg when done, which is fine for my XC and light trail riding.

Forget the bike, I'm admiring the saab; used to have a ttid aero estate, superb motors and a shame they've gone0 -
So, I stripped all the good bits I'd added off my Carrera and built this up, it was interesting just how bad the Kraken felt after being set back to original spec.
Specs are:
2015 On-One 45650b in super raw finish.
Hope pic'n'mix headset, "H" bottom cup and "2" top cup allowing for a tapered steerer, Hope head doctor and spacers, Hope hoops (pro 2 evo SP hubs, Stans arch ex rims) set up tubeless with Maxxis Ikons, Hope rear QR.
Fox 32 TALAS with FIT and CTD, adjusts from 150 to 120 MM. Travel.
Shimano XTR M970 shifters and crank, XTR bottom bracket, XTR shift cables, XT 11-34 cassette, XT mechs, XT chain and XT M785 brakes with 180/160 rotors, DX SPD pedals.
Superstar signature saddle, layback seatpost, seat QR, brake mounts, Zephir pro stem (50mm) and rotor bolts.
Bontrager 750mm handlebars
ODI Vans grips
RRP enduroguards front and rear
Rides a lot better than the Carrera did, much easier to pop the front up and hop over obstacles. The slacker geometry and steel frame make for a far more confident ride.0 -
Jonesinamilion wrote:Forget the bike, I'm admiring the saab; used to have a ttid aero estate, superb motors and a shame they've gone
1.8t with a few upgrades runs about 250BHP now, needs a bigger intercooler and a proper induction kit to be honest
Only changes to the bike are a bigger rear rotor gone to a 180mm, still deciding on tyres but needs something lighter.0 -
Quite a timid beast, defo belongs here.

So after a week or so of popping out to a bike-light-lit shed in the evenings, my bike has been stripped down, degreased, re-lubed and put back together. The 'daddy ring' has been removed and replaced with a hope bash guard, front mech obviously re-indexed too.
I learnt a lot, hadn't removed forks before, or chainrings, so it's all good knowledge. Was all pretty easy, and the bike is riding (and looking) great!
New grips too, although I wish I had left the old ones on until I had finished, these are rather grubby and haven't been ridden on yet!
Although I'm saving for a new full suspension, I'm on the lookout for some cheap(ish) air sprung forks. Can't quite justify £150 on some new Recon silvers, so hoping something will turn up second hand at some point.Daddy, Husband, Designer, Biker, Gamer, Geek
