Hi,
I am sure these questions have been asked many times before on this forum and will no doubt be asked many times in the future but here goes: I am looking to get into road cycling and want to know, How much do I need to spend on a bike? What bike should I buy? Should I buy second hand and from where? and is it possible to get a decent bike to start with for £200-£400?

Thanks very much

    Hi there,

Basically, you can spend what like on bike, and the price range you've noted should get you a decent entry level bike. Does your budget include kit? (shorts/jersey/jacket/track pump etc)? as it all adds up.

If you have an experienced friend who knows what to look for, second hand in that price range could net you a bargain, but can be quite intimadating and possibly be an expensive mistake to go into blind.

If you are looking to buy new, in that range, you can't really go wrong with a Triban

    Hope that helps

I'm in a similar situation. I've been looking in the classified here and also on pink bike. Are there any other recommended sites? Off to decathlon later.

Used Triban - plenty for sale as riders keen to upgrade so prices stay low
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
