Click from BB / cranks

Particularly when under load, I'm getting a loudish click from the BB / crank area on my Rockrider on each rotation (generally when left pedal / crank is at about 10 o'clock when viewed from the side).
I've not detected any play or wobble down there, what's the most likely culprit? Could be pedal, could be loose crank, could be BB. What's your betting as the first port of call?

Assuming a cartidge BB and square taper, check the crank bolt(s)I don't do smileys.
