5 riders in the break been out pretty much since 0km. Fraporti (Androni), Owsian (CCC), Berlato (Vini Fantini), Zhupa (Southeast) and Linderman (Lotto-Jumbo). At one point they had over 8 mins, now down to 3 mins with 44km to go.

Tinkoff riding on the front to keep Contador safe. Matthews dropped on last climb and chasing back on.

I think we can probably get used to most of these teams getting in to the break of the day. Zhupa is Albanian - are there many more Albanians in the pro peloton?

    Stunning route today.

And Bert-Jan will be in the maglia azzurra tomorrow.

It's not until now I've realised how poor the startlist actually is for this race.

Amazingly, Southeast's new kit for the Giro is even worse than their old one.

Splits due to the crashes. Tinkoff on the front keeping Contador safe.

Tinkoff Saxo train out in force.

    Field split up big time.

Would 150% be a better stage if people could stay on two wheels.
It's not so much about winning, I just hate losing.

Sky and Astana both have groups near the front too, so those teams seemingly doing a good job for their leaders.

Jurgen VdB out the back too. Quelle surprise.

Probably can't read too much in to this, but Tinkoff had a huge number of riders looking after Contador up until a minute ago. Sky 4 riders, Astana 5.

    Not seen where Uran is.

Great work by Viviani. That was a right mess though!

Viviani timed that perfectly, he's usually too far back but was spot on that time.

Watch the overhead slow mo, Viviani followed all the right wheels and just waited patiently. Pretty impressive.

At last Viviani gets the big win. Happy for him.

Pozzo ended up losing over 1 min on the main GC contenders after that.

On top of his 40" deficit from the TTT, too.

Great sprint by Viviani. SKY come with a whole team to support Porte and he still wins the sprint, good effort.

Lots of spills on the final circuit. It seems that the big one with 10km to go was caused by a "fan" jumping into the group of riders on a fixie.

Sky failed to win a single GT stage last year, now take the first GT road stage of the season.
2 posts more for today's stage. Progress. :P

Good to see JAF so happy to see SDB on the post stage show (was riding all afternoon so all I caught was the last 500m and that)
