How will Disk Brakes change things?

If BC told me I had to use disc's I'd never race BC again...new frame and new wheels = 5k...no thanks.0

Too many scare stories about disc brakes in bunch. Road racing is harardous anyway. Disc brakes will make riding in buch a bit safer in the wet because your brakes will actually work, otherwise they just allow you to control your braking effort more. I have raced bit and crashes are not that common and really for rotors to cut into riders the bike would have to flying through the air at hit a rider in some very perculiar way. In most racin in the u.k the rotors would not even get hot riders will crash in that they akways have and get road rash and break bones. Stop fretting grill it will be fine. I have worked out how to build a 6kg disc brake bike. Just need the moneh now.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

It makes little to no difference, in terms of the variability of braking power in the bunch. Anyone who talks about 'slamming on' is missing the point. Disc brakes give far more modulation than rim brakes, especially in the wet. If anything slamming on is less likely. But don't let that stop those with no experience casting judgements.
As a matter of interest, where were these crits?
Germany, Lower Saxony0 -
Ok, so not UK, but I'm still surprised to be honest. I would have thought that most NGBs would still be adopting UCI guidelines...0

The only change I can see it making is a few leg brandings if a particularly unlucky rider stacks it on a longgg descent.0

Things are very different in Germany in terms of race governance, I suspect due to federal system. FWIW, I did the Pearson's chaingang last night, which is just as fast and much worse than a crit (roundabouts, traffic etc) and again, no concerns. I can brake a lot later than everyone else but that makes no difference to speak of. I've done a fair bit of racing in my time (incl. Premier Calendar and UCI 2.2 races) so its not as if I'm coming to this completely green.0 -
I'm inclined to agree that discs and calipers will mix without issue. They'll have to, because I can't see BC introducing it into amateur racing in any other way...0

Can't wait to hear the sound of hissing flesh and accompanied 3/4 Cat screams
It'll be like cattle branding down at the ranch!0 -

Just how quickly do the things heat up - I haven't done many 3rd cat races where I'm on the brakes much it's not like they send you down Alpine climbs. Serious question is it really an issue in a UK amateur race situation ?[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -

Any idea if discs will be allowed in UK road racing next year? It's not so much about winning, I just hate losing.0

Not allowed at all in LVRC/TLIThis decision will be reviewed at a later date when evidence as to their safety has been reviewed."0

Road racing proving to be backwards as ever. I swear at every turn road racing puts up some form of blockade in my desire to return to it.It's not so much about winning, I just hate losing.0

No - not according to the published timeline.LeePaton wrote:Road racing proving to be backwards as ever. I swear at every turn road racing puts up some form of blockade in my desire to return to it.
Really? If disks (or lack of) are actually stopping you from going back to road racing, then maybe consider another sport?0 -
Means buying another bike... Stick with cross and mtbing. It's not so much about winning, I just hate losing.0
