Never sure whether to race this bike there or to stick with a road bike. Feels wrong to stick a compact on it!Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

The front wheel is indeed a bespoke one. Made by Wheelsmith, with a rear to match five season ago for me. Gigantex rims on Novatech hubs with Sapim Lasers( of course someone like yourself would have known that anyway!)Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

I don't know why people prefer black spokes... shiny silver spokes with a big black rim looks the business to me.left the forum March 20230 -

I agree, got a couple of wheel sets that came with bikes with black spokes and they all end up the same, chipped and tatty looking. At least with silver you can polish up with some solve and they look a million dollars.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Do it!
I'm going to have a crack on my TT bike this year, last year I had a 39/29 rear gear, this year will have 36/27 if I use the TTer. I have some Wheelsmith Aero 60 wheels to use on it too...Insta: ATEnduranceCoaching

I've got a 11/27 cassette that I used with the compact on the road bike last year and just, just managed Ankerdine. I suppose a 39/29 would be very similar? I do fancy the idea. Coming down the A44 stretch on her with the 55/11 spinning away would be awesome, might even crack 50mph!Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Very cool bike indeed, and great to see that you've kept it so long. Doesn't really even look that old!0

a 39/29 falls between a 34/25 and a 34/26.
Doable...
36/27 is just a tiny (0.3 inch!) bit easier than 39/29 but I'll be lighter and fitter than last year.Insta: ATEnduranceCoaching

Lovely TT rig.
At the risk of sounding picky, can I ask why you've not chopped off all that spare tri-bar behind the clamps?0 -

Not picky at all. I tend to move position a bit when I do longer TTs like 50 & 100. I reckon I could lose a bit without sacrificing that, just need to get round to it. It was one of the reasons I fitted the Nokon style cables so I could make those adjustments easilyNorfolk, who nicked all the hills?

I'm not being picky either but have you thought about a different gear cable routing? I have a similar set up to you, external down tube cable and 'jagwire'. What I've done is run the cable over the bar, next to the stem, then down to the gear stops running tight to the frame rather than sticking out wide. I've also crossed the cables (twice) reason being, if you run them normal, parallel, they stick out, if you cross them, they hide better in front of the downtube. I recon this save me 50w in drag, sorry 0.50w;).0

That's interesting. I have wondered about the routing. Would your suggestion allow me to raise the bars for my longer TT's? The stem is adjustable and allows me to raise the bars a fair bit.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Yes it would, definitely. It's one of the reasons I went this route as I'm always messing around with my position. With the cables you're using and the route I suggested, if you move the stem up or down all you're doing is changing the shape of the 's' the cables make when transitioning from the bars to the stops.
For example when you raise the stem the s becomes almost straight, when you lower it, it becomes a fat s shape, if that makes sense.
The other advantage for me is that it hides the top cap bolt a little. Mine always rusts from turbo use.0 -
Thanks for that. I'm about to strip and clean/service it for the coming season so will give it a go.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

The neatest solution might be to chuck all the mechanical stuff away and change to Di2.0

Extensions and cables now a lot tidier after some fiddling.
