I currently have a sram red og1090 and looking to change ratios as its a 11-25.
Have been looking at the xg1090 but want to make sure it's compatible to switch.
I understand og means open glide and xg is x glide their new system.
Can any help me and advise whether the two are interchangeabke with out having to replace my chain as well.
Thanks in advance. And sorry if this is a stupid question.

Both cassettes are interchangeable. OG and XG refers to the tooth ramps on the cogs. It makes no difference which chain you use. Any 10 speed chain will work.
If you are going for a bigger cassette in all likelihood you will need a longer chain.
If your old chain is too worn. It will slip.0 -
I'm changing to a 11-28 cassette. The change has done about 800 miles so should be ok.
How will I tell if I need to add links to my change?2015 Specialized S-Works Tarmac - Ultegra Di2 (7.0kg)

In all honesty, considering the price of a sram red cassette, if I were in your position, I would definitely be fitting a new chain. I suspect you would be fine in terms of chain length but I'd take it off and keep it with the existing cassette in case you decide to change back.
