Bike box/flight case

I'm going to have to take the plunge and buy a proper bike box.

The wife and I are moving to Hong Kong at the end of next month and I'll be wanting to head off to Taiwan/Aus etc on some cycling trips.

I want a proper hard, moulded case to offer some decent protection.

Any recommendations please?

They're both about £450 and then there's this copy which comes in at £200 but worried about the quality of the catches, which is where it's going to break.

Velovault. Bullet proof. Dont waste your money on a cheap imitation. Saving £200 and risking the box and bike? No brainer.

One possible consideration for you when moving overseas is what storage space you will have over there. It's worth taking a look at the dimensions of a hard shell bike box.

If you are okay for space and have a decent quality bike, I don't think I would get anything other than a rigid case. I have a Bike Box Alan and whilst I'm sure there are others every bit as good, mine has taken a bashing and is still in good shape. Trusting baggage handlers is not recommended!! Good luck with the move.

Thanks guys - Shokbox looks like it might be the way to go in that case. It's handily priced at (roughly) what I'm expecting to sell my commuter for as well.

I've an a Evoc Stripes soft bike bag. Now, you probably don't want a soft bike bag and that's fine. What I did learn though is how useful having handles etc in the right place is. The Evoc is very well thought out in that respect. I transported my bike by taxi, train and air into hotels. Being able to manage it up escalators, into lifts, up ramps etc made the whole experience pretty easy. From the simple pictures (and I didn't hunt through the site) it wasn't clear that the Shokbox would be anywhere near as easy to manage. It might not be a consideration for you (it wasn't for me when I bought) but I really was delighted by how easy the Evoc was to navigate the world.
