Rapha Video

I could have filmed a Rapha video today.
If only I had a TV crew following me.
It was dark, it was windy, it was raining, it would have been great in black and white.
I was head to toe in Rapha gear.
The rain drops were falling elegantly from the peak of my cap.
The return was finished with a climb, in the sunshine, with a tail wind.

It would have been EPIC!

Maybe I should try a selfie video tomorrow. Conditions should be spot on.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Not a full beard but a few days stubble. That is sufficient as a minimum.
No tattoo either. That is my way of being unique.
I could well have had a chain ring "tattoo" as I stopped at the top of a hill to view the mist covered hills.

You should definitely be in the new club. On the ride did you have a Rapha wallet in your back pocket stuffed full of disposable income?

No one carries cash these days.
    Gold card, don't you know?

  • Brilliant!

And when you get home don't forget to wash with your £12 Rapha soap!

Was perusing their travel section today and saw the Corsica trip which looked quite nice...until I saw the price...£3400 for 5 days riding?! (Flights not included).

Well those videos don't come cheap darling!

I think you can do the "Raid Corsica" with Marmot Tours for less than a grand

    Don't be silly.
There are much better soaps out there. I much prefer Acqua Di Parma.

And, comparing the Rapha trips with Marmot really is apples and oranges. They provide completely different services.
The same roads, but different services off the road.
You may well consider them a rip off but that is down to personal choice and circumstance.

For what it is worth, I decided that safety was the better part of valour today and spent time on the turbo.
All in all, I would rather have got wet.

These services would need to be of a sexual nature for me to consider £3400 value for money.....

If you join the club you get the £300 bike hire charge knocked off the price apparently. Imagine cycling round Corsica with a load of city traders. Im not sure Id go with Rapha even if I could afford it. Beautiful island though.

Gold Card? Anyone and their dog can get one of those.... You need a Black card (AmEx Centurian) to match with Rapha.

I was offered one (invitation only) but I decided that it wasn't worth it.
I actually have a platinum one but thought that would be showing off.

Credit cards? Even the poorest of poor people have credit cards. Cash is the sign of wealth. And possessions you actually possess rather than 'renting them' for an extortionate interest rate off a credit card company that sees you as a cash cow by giving you a piece of plastic a slightly different colour to the next person.

    Tut, tut silly boy.
The balance is merely paid off in full very month by direct debit.
That means that I do not have to dirty my hands with cash and interest rates are irrelevant.

If it was such a great ride, why do they all look as miserable as sin sitting down afterwards drinking tea? Maybe they should try mountain biking

That is because after the coffee they were not allowed a large Macallan to thaw out as I was. It would send out the wrong message even though it is exactly what is required to make the trip perfect. :P

Yep, kit looks nothing special at all, which is probably why they have to go for ads like that.

That video made me feel a bit homesick - wrong side of the country but similar roads.

The funny thing is in that part of the world Assos rules - Rapha is very good but too "urban".

And the weather was pretty good. I did a ride with colleagues from Inverness to Livingstone (just outside Edinburgh) in a day over the Cairngorms in the great September storms of a couple of years ago. 60mph winds. I drove the minibus for the first 90 miles (and rode the second 90) and we had to use the bus to "tow" the riders in the headwind sections over the mountains and, even then, we were barely doing 10mph. Very wet too - a group of riders wringing out their gloves is a funny sight. But they're the rides you remember.

Damn cheek. A pale Scottish imitation - my bit of wool on the side is way better looking :)
