Power Meter Options & Confusion

Hi All,

I've ordered a new bike with a PF30 Bottom Bracket, first time with SRAM and Disc Brakes (on a road bike) which makes my current PowerTap useless;
http://www.raleigh.co.uk/ProductType/Pr ... 4&pg=12130

First thought was to look at Stages for a second power meter which is Ok, not sure about the battery issues and warranty for the future though... but still an option.

As an alternative I've just taken a look at power2max, when I select the Frame Format as PF30 the FSA Gossamer is flagged up at a similar price to the stages;
http://www.power2max.de/europe/en/Produ ... amer-road/

Now I'm not sure if this will be a straight swap of cranks as under compatible bottom brackets it says PF30; Rotor 4624.

When I Google Rotor 4624 it returns the following with no mention of PF30;
http://www.rotoruk.co.uk/btmbrackets/pressfit-steel.php

Just confused if the power2max would be compatible, straight swap or a BB change and even if the Rotor 4624 would fit the PF30

Would anyone have any knowledge on this or maybe looked at/fitted similar themselves?

Cheers

  • Would that mean I could do a straight swap of cranks and use the existing SRAM BB?

    Thank You

    EDIT: Errr, sure I just saw a post from NeXXus but now it's gone.

    Think you're misreading - rotor site says 4624 works with pf30 and a 24mm axle. So you can do this with shimano or rotor 3d (not 3d+) cranks. Not 100% sure about sram gxp. P2max with rotor cranks is a brilliant setup that recently came down in price. I'd do that. In fact thats what I have :)

    Forgot to say you could alternatively get a rotor 4630 bb and use it with a bb30 chainset such as rotor 3d+ which you can get with p2max
  • I'll have a look at that a little later thanks ~ Just trying to get away with no change to the bb.

  • I may be wrong but I thought that any crank that will work with BB30 will also work with PF30 (and the other way around). Does this help: http://wheelsmfg.com/bb30-vs-pf30

    I had a long hard think about power meters, after originally ordering a quark. I cancelled the order and ordered some garmin vector pedals. Pro's and cons:

    Pro:

    Easy to switch between bikes
    Easy to replace batteries
    Great integration with my 810
    readings at each crank

    Con:

    They are fugly
    They are really fugly
    They are pricey

  • Good info thanks gloomyandy, that has led me on to:
    http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-hel ... et-service

    So both of those articles confirm each other for the crank spindle diameters.

    I guess I need to find out what the existing crank is, if 24mm I guess it should be Ok :?:

    Thanks mpatts, I've looked at the pedals but I'm trying to avoid them as I like the float and setup of the speedplays (if not for this I would get pedals).
