Carrera Fury 2010/2011 chainset upgrade advice

Looking to upgrade my Fury from a 9 speed X7 / X5 mix 11 to 32 cassette / triple truvativ Blaze 44,32,22 set up to a double. It currently has a truvativ powerspline BB so limited to cranksets without changing the Bottom bracket i assume. Looking to simplify my gears as hardly using the 44 now as bike being used as it should on proper trails not flat stuff. Kept dropping the chain off the granny gear when hitting the rough stuff at CyB and Llandegla this week, would be looking for a suitable bashguard to save my ankles as well. May look at slightly bigger top gear on cassette, managed most stuff whilst in wales until i was too knackered to pedal any more. Budget is tight so looking for easy options advice will be gratefully received.

Go shimano , sram , fsa . Otherwise as you say you are stuck with power spline.( if interested I have sram x9 shifters, rear mech , and 11 to 36 cassette v good condition. Sadly cranks bb30. )

The Rookie

Remove the 44t and either just use the 22/32 or replace the 32 with a 36, using either shorter bolts or fit an alloy bash. Check the indexing of the front mech to stop the chain coming off on the inside and descend with the chain on the big ring which makes it less likely to come off anyway.
