I currently carry a Crank Brothers 17 multitool on rides. This includes a chain tool that is rated for 9/10 speed chains.
If I move to a Shimano 11 chain (new bike) will this multitool still work OK.
I only want to be able to split the chain and fit a KMC Quick Link. I don't want to fit a new pin.

yes it will work - whilst 11 speed chain is narrower than 9/10 speed, the pins are same diameter. all you need to do is pop the pins out.

to be honest I didnt think chain tools were "speed" specific at all.

I've used my Park Tools splitter for 9, 10 and 11speed chains all without issue.
