Shimano 105 bb making noises

Hi guys I have a cube pelaton race that ive had for nearly a year now but it didnt take to the roads till at least march so its not done that many miles, a couple of months ago after doing a few training rides of 30 miles each then completing the london to brighton and then a few weeks later doing an 80 mile sportive after about 50 miles I started to get clicking and tapping noises from the bb mainly on up hill sections when putting more pressure through the pedals, I watched a few you tube vids on removing the crank and bb, cleaning and re-greasing and with the correct tools (which I went and bought) looked pretty easy. So I set about carefully removing everything, cleaned it all up and re-greased it and then put it back together, I then rode a 50 mile ride a few weeks after that and up until about 35 miles everything was fine till the same noises came back, I haven't had the time to get back out on it since so not sure if it will return again ?
I wouldnt have thought the bb really needed servicing after so few miles so not sure if that was the problem and if not what else could it be and how to sort it ?
Its not something you can recreate just by spinning the pedals while its standing still so its very annoying..........TIA

replace the bb. There's not much else you can do it really. Assuming the problem is really the bb as You said the problem went away after cleaning and re greasing the bb.0

Are you definite its the bb? Have you checked pedals and cleats?
Also I had a clicking noise that I swore was from the bb. Only happened when there was a bit of pressure through the pedals. It was a spoke, so a little lube sorted it.0 -
I've re-greased, re-installed and bought a new BB because of a creak/click before and it ended up being the headset.0

Take your pedals out, clean the threads, apply copper slip and refit.
99% of bb area creaks are your pedal threads.Advocate of disc brakes.0 -

Thanks for the advice , just wondering whats the best way to check the pedals and cleats and where abouts to grease or put copperslip ? It could well be the pedals I suppose but just not sure how to check ?0 -

Get a pedal spanner (or long allen key if your pedals lack flats for a spanner) and take the pedals off. Remember the left pedal unscrews clockwise. Clean the threads and apply a little copperslip. Reinstall them being careful not to cross-thread them, and tighten properly. Do them one at a time so you don't try threading the wrong pedal in the wrong crank when you put them back.
Also smear a tiny bit of grease on the cleat retention points (but remember you've done it before you go walking grease all over the carpet)0 -
Check your headset, I was convinced I had a noisy BB and it ended up being play in the headset.0

My last noisy BB was a cracked bolt on my seatpost clamp. It creaked every time I pushed hard with my right leg and I was convinced it was the BB. I've yet to fit the replacement BB I ordered 6 months ago
I've had the pedal BB creak, and the headset BB creak too. Once I actually had a creaky BB, fancy that!0 -
Ive had BB creaks on every part of my bike except my BB which is still working faultlessly ... 105 here and done about 12k miles and ive been expecting it to go but it seems pretty robust and has stainless steel bearing i believe. All of my creaksand squeaks have been sorted with a small squirt of wd40...0

I've got one now which has been worsening over the last few rides... I was pretty sure it was the BB because it's an FSA one which has terrible reviews on here and elsewhere, and the noise is equal when putting pressure through both legs... But now not so sure and might fiddle with the pedals first...
It's not like BBs are hugely expensive though.0 -
My 105 will arive today at the princely sum of £8.99.
Hardly worth stripping it and replacing the bearings.Advocate of disc brakes.0 -
That's a lot cheaper than my LBS. Was £15 for a 105 in there. I'll be replacing my FSA with a lovely new Ultegra which cost £22. Ultegra's like, more betterer than 105, right?0

Yes but CRC only had that in the 70mm Italin threaded flavour and even with my world class engineering skills I doubt I'd manage a bodge of that magnitude.
I considered dura ace but that would just put the rest of my bike to shame.Advocate of disc brakes.0
