Creaking rear wheel? hub?

Start by checking the spoke tension, and also look for any side-to-side wobble.
Squeeze pairs of spokes together all around both sides of the wheel - if the 'feel' of any pair of spokes is significantly different (or there is wobble), have the wheel trued and spokes adjusted.
note: hitting a large hole/obstacle could cause this.
Also use your fingers to try moving the rim side-to-side - a very tiny amount of movement is ok, but more than about 1 mm could mean a problem with the bearings.
