I was expecting to see the price of (10 speed) Shimano 105 5700 groupsets drop significacantly with the arrival of the new 11 speed 105 5800 ngroupsets. This doesn't seem to be the case though - both are going for around £300. Does anyone have insights as to why that might be?

Probably because there are only a small % of people able to run 11 speed 5800 as most people have >10 speed wheels.

Same with Ultegra - 6700 and 6800 are both around £500.

Less than £300 is giving it away...

How important is it to have the whole groupset? The shifters and mechs would come in considerably less than 300 sovs. If you want the whole thing, then 300 is a very good price for a quality groupset.

  • You can get everything, on a 105 5800 setup, for £323 from Wiggle right now: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-105-5800-groupset/

I know it's the 11 speed, but a damn good deal, and I believe the 11 speed casette fits the standard wheels, without the spacer.
  • Personally I'd go for the whole group set if possible. Gradually upgraded by non 105 components and the difference is huge.
