Just pluged in my Garmin on Strava then had a window pop up with do you want to link up with Garmin, then froze up. Didn't think they were partial to each other.

Yep it appears Garmin Connect and Strava have struck a deal to make the API based data exchange official (previously you had to use copymysports or similar 3rd party back door solution)
Used it today means you can just upload to Garmin connect (phone and Bluetooth from 510 I'm using) and then it pushes it straight into Strava without you touching it again. Worked good this morning took 2 minutes to arrive at Strava, tonight over half an hour not so good :?
Not sure what the long term plan is I think Garmin are hoping all the Strava users will get engaged with their Garmin segments but hopefully they'll all keep playing nicely, the integration is welcome0 -
Was a bit of a shock to the system but worked ok this evening... Knocked 0.2 off my speed though !0

Garmin and Strava always have a difference in speed and elevation. Garmin devices can differ between units i.e. my ride buddy always ends up riding further than me by as much as 2 miles according to his device despite doing exactly the same route. I have the Nt maps and he uses the free download version which may be why.
With the tie in between Garmin and Strava, I'm wondering if this was the hold-up in sorting out the issues with LiveTrack 510/810/1000 owners were having? Everything seems to be working fine for the last couple of weeks.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -

If speed sensors are not used any errors in GPS position would cause distances to grow or shrink.0 -
Since Training Peaks and Connect started auto sycning a few months back I've been hoping/waiting for the same functionality to be added for Strava.
Currently there seems to be a huge time delay in getting the activities to auto sync to Strava. Hopefully this will be a teething problem that will soon be resolved. If they can get them to display within 5 minutes which is their goal then it means that they should be automatically synced by the time you've had a drink and removed your cycling shoes/helment/gloves - definately by the time you've had a shower.
As soon as the above issue is resolved it will mean that I will never have to hook my Garmin Edge 1000 up to my PC. Instead my rides will be pushed to Connect via the iPhone app (which I run on my iPad) which will then get them into both Training Peaks and Strava. I can also use the iPhone app to push courses and segments to the 1000. All I'll need to do is charge the 1000 via a wall plug.0 -
Set this up at the weekend after uploading my rides so didn't get to test until yesterday - I've been uploading to Garmin Connect using the express software for quite a while now so hoped it would just be a case of plug the GPS in and go and have a shower - but it's not working for me yet - came back down from shower and no sync between accounts, so I uploaded manually instead.0

My auto sync took less than 5mins.I was logged into both applications so don't know if it works if logged out on Garmin Connect?0

I used my Edge 200 for first time yesterday. Came home, installed Garmin Express on my Mac, connected 200, synced nice and easily. Opened Connect, saw my Activities - sweet.
However when I opened Strava, although I found info re: syncing accounts and tried it didn't work. Both Strava & Connect were open in my browser and the Express application was also open. What's strange is that although Strava seemed to suggest it would be asking for my Garmin login credentials to sync it didn't actually do so. I thought perhaps that was because Connect and Express were both open in the background and it harvested credentials automatically from there but I don't know. Strava is showing as connected with my Connect account. 12 hours later though my activities sre still not showing-up on Strava :-(
Perhaps it will kick-in when I sync tonight.0 -
Mine didn't work last night, waited about 30 mins then manually uploaded.
Looks all connected ok in strava. Edge 800 connected to PC and synced with garmin express no problem. Fingers crossed just a few teething problems - a very useful feature.0 -

I think it's just very slow. I waited a few hours last night and it hadn't copied across, but it eventually did while I was asleep because it was there this morning.0 -
Anything with two words "Garmin" and "software" in it is asking for trouble. Their devices are fine, perhaps even good, but their software is just Meh.WyndyMilla Massive Attack | Rourke 953 | Condor Italia 531 Pro | Boardman CX Pro | DT Swiss RR440 Tubeless Wheels

new garmin totals sucks, slow as a snail to do anything and segments I have set up for my own training purposes just never show, always states "were very busy......bla bla" utterly useless.
Don't want anything to so with Strava either, security sucks too big time.Team4Luke supports Cardiac Risk in the Young0 -
Be aware that if you have a new ride on Garmin set to private, Strava will import it and make it public.
That's why I won't be using it.0 -

I found that today was the first time that this actually worked properly, I was waiting for over an hour to see if it worked for my ride on Thursday evening before giving up and uploading to Strava from the Garmin. Today it must have been less than 5 minutes wait. I was using a 3rd party to do this before but that took around 15-30 minutes to sync, this is a welcome feature in my eyes, although I'm sure it would be easier to create a program do an automatic upload to Strava the same as Garmin Express does for Connect.0

^^ what Garmin do you have?
After loading my ride from the 510 to Garmin connect today via Bluetooth the ride appeared on strava shortly after with no further actions required.Giant Propel Advanced Pro 20 -

? I think the instructions above are for importing your strava rides back into garmin connect via the website - why are you trying to put them back on your device that will just clog it up with old files?0
-
It was the only way i could think of to bulk move them and then sync them as the manual uplaod page on garmin would only select single files.I would then have deleted the files .
Another forum recommended tapiriik which is syncing both accounts so i am all sortedFCN 3/5/90 -

800 and it's working properly now, although the name of the activity on Strava is an automatically generated one and not what I've renamed it to in Connect.0 -
A friend pointed me to https://tapiriik.com which can transfer data between several services (strava, Garmin, endomondo etc etc etc)0

thats a standard strava naming convention. better than the untitled thing you get with Garmin.
it seems to work a lot faster now. as in 2-3 mins on an off peak time for an uncomplicated ride.0 -
I hit save on my ride, at the pub last night. The ride was on GC and Strava in minutes.
