Another Strava question...

I currently use the Strava Android app on a Galaxy S3. It works fine most of the time. I often go out riding in the early morning, which the app does not seem to like. It registers the GPS signal, then starts correctly, however when I reach the end of my ride, it seems not to have registered anything. I have tried restarting the phone and re-installing the app without success.

This only happens in the early morning hours!

Any ideas?

Maybe it's tried and pissed off you've woken it up so early.

JohnBrac - maybe you're cycling too fast and your phone just can't keep up with you!

Seriously though, I use Strava on my S3 and have no problems at all. I ride early morning too (set off at 6:45am this morning - which is my idea of 'early') and that makes no difference - I can't see how time of day could have an effect anyway. Try dropping the guys at Strava an e-mail - I had a problem with rides not uploading earlier this year and their support team replied to my e-mail within 24hours and told me exactly what to do to sort it out!

That attitude has been proven to fail.

On the first night of their honeymoon a man thinks he should set out his store. Holding out his trousers he says
"Here you are darling, try these on"
She looks aghast but does it anyway and of course the inevitable happens.
"These are far too big for me", she replies.
To which he smartly says "And don't you forget it!"

She thinks for a while and then holds up a tiny pair of pink knickers.
"Here you are then, try these on".
"Don't be ridiculous" he says "I can't get into those".

To which the even smarter reply was "And you won't unless you change your attitude!"

I, and a lot of other people, have been having this exact same issue. It started about 6 weeks ago I think. There’s some posts on the strava discussion board about it (https://strava.zendesk.com/forums/20544 ... ion#recent), and some official posts from Strava about ways round it. None of them have worked that well for me. They’ve obviously changed something in a recent update which has caused this problem.

I got so annoyed last year with my Android strava app crashing numerous times that I just went out and bought a Garmin Edge 500. Best money I have spent.

Or you could just go out, buy it, and she will be none the wiser.

I just bought a 510 last week and tonight was the first ride with it on the bike and strava running in the background.

All the data pretty much matched but it was nice to have it in front of my face when riding and having the ability to watch the cadence and my heart rate when I wheezed over the last 2 hills on the way home.

I would echo the comments above - Get a Garmin. Tell the wife you need one

The technique I prefer is known as the dripping tap. You keep mentioning it for long enough and eventually she will say something like "FFS go and buy the thing"

I had this problem. Turning off WIFI fixed it.

Garmins are undoubtedly more reliable, but as I always carry my phone, it seems a bit OTT to carry more than one expensive battery powered GPS enabled device with me.
