Bugga, Bugga, Bugga...
I will message you tomorrow0 -
A pending BOGOF deal perhaps?0

Sorry I am such a pain. Dilemma time has arrived.
1k budget, happy to move to 1150 for roubaix sl4
My dealer advanced warned me sport is going in sale for 1400, he might be able to shave a little of for me as i'm such a pain. so sport 2014 - 1350
Now 2015 sport is going to be 1500 has CGR seatpost and all new 105 groupset, downside is its comes in hyper green, and now possibly a greay with white.
So i could spent the extra, the 2015 love the component upgrades not a fan of the colours.
Sport i would have jumped on that but now i sit there thinking 150 more gets me the seatpost and new 105 groupset, but that colour.
Then i think thats either £200 or £350 more then sl4.
I'm so ********** haven't got a clue anymore.0 -
Believe it or not, I'm in a similar issue as I want to get my roubaix a tarmac brother. The 2015 range is interesting as I can't find any info on the base models (presuming they're not doing new ones) and the other models have got cheaper whilst the spec is better. Seems to be £1500, £1800 and £2000 now, although that makes the elite and comp very closely priced.
There's more to it than just spec though, I think you've got to like the look of what you buy (I know I do anyway) so the colour comes into it. I'm just as unsure what to do about the tarmacs as you are about the roubaix!0 -
Can't believe you still have not made your mind up....
Go for the Roubaix SL4 at £1150 it's in just over budget and you can look at upgrade after a year when you are fit enough to take advantage of the upgrades.
I am happy now I got the disc, but problem when you always want the better more expensive model, you always feel you made the wrong choice, me well I have come to terms with spending £400 over budget, but got myself a £1500 bike for £999, leaving me some happy upgrades next year, when I am doing the miles to warrant it.
Take the plunge and you will love the bike, I do0 -

After some thought, had the new sport been black and something, I'm pretty certain I would have jumped on that, the hyper green is just too way out there for me, and the silver/grey that it may also be available in does nothing for me.
Leaves me thinking sport 2014 is the way to go, but the problem of feeling like your missing out on all those new components for not much more money sits in my head bugging me. Such a buggers.
Current thought is to get 2014 close to 1300 and hit reserve on that, wait for new model to arrive and see it in the flesh and if there no chemistry then walk off happily with the sport.
Thats current thought.
Do you need any info on the new tarmacs? My guy pretty good at letting me see info, so I can lookup stuff for you if you not sure on something in particular?
So is the Roubaix your planned winter bike? Because I'm wondering whether I should use that through the bad weather or switch to my MTB/Hybrid however they are in a different class (not a goood one) I just wonder how Roubaix fairs in the winter months.0 -

To be honest once I have it I will be happy, its a huge leap from what I have now, so I don't doubt that. I'm also no much of an upgrader when it comes to groupsets, I don't mind messing with tyres, brakes, pedals, but I tend to stick with groupset, so I want to get the best I can get now and be done for a long long time, I hope.0 -
Roubaix will be fine for the winter rides, one reason I got the disc, as in ride all weather. Just need to make sure you clean and lube, all will be good to go for your next ride out.
Colour of the bike is a massive thing, I was looking at the Giant Rapids as a direct replacement Hybrid, with a little extra speed, but I did not like any of the colours, I waited to see the 2014 bikes and the colours did not change, so I did not bother.
I like the black and green, nice combo0 -
i'd be happy with black and green, black and most other colours would work to be honest, its when i stray away from the black it becomes an issue :-D
Happy to hear it can double as a winter, wondering how does road salt and grit effect carbon?
Thinking hat is on, going to go to the shop this morning.0 -

I'd agree on that, the green would be too much for me so I'd possibly be thinking along the same lines as you and trying to get a discounted 2014 sport. The spec differences are mainly the cg-r, which you could add later, and the 11 speed in lieu of 10 speed 105, which I doubt makes a massive difference.
That's cool, I have the tarmac info ta I'll probably get a comp but I love orange bikes and the damn sport is unexpectedly orange! They'd kept that colour for expert or s-works bikes before.
No I love my roubaix, so it stays as a summer bike too; I have a tricross with mudguards for the winter. I'd like a summer s-works but decided I needed to try a 'normal' roubaix and tarmac to see which one I'd prefer the s-works version of before committing to so much money. I really, really like my roubaix so the tarmac will have to be pretty special to swing me that way!0 -
My roubaix comp is an awesome bike. Have a defy fitted out for winter but rarely use it as my ruby is so cuddly and not put a foot wrong yet. Wheels on mine are fulcrum 6 which are pretty good and would probably need a shedload of dosh to improve on0
-
OK half done. Deposit down for the Sport 2014 going to wait till Aug 19th week which is when they think the 2015 will be in, then look at it up close and personal and make the final call. Ahhh feel better already :-)
@Mikey23 do you need to change the wheels for winter or you just changed the wheels fullstop?
Does a wider tyre fit on the standard rim and frame?0 -
Still sitting on the fence then
Just hope they have some of the sport 2014 in stock, then they will bring the price down, problem is, you have been offered the Sport at £1350, the SL4 standard was only reduced £150 from £1300 to £1150. You may have already been offered the discount!
Loving my Roubaix Disc by the way, been adding some miles on to it, as some said, it's so nice, may just ride it through winter, just remember to keep it clean and well lubed, the bike will be fine0 -

The Sport sale price is £1400 they have already reduced it, so my price of £1350 is final, I'm just waiting now to see 2015 in the flesh before pulling the trigger, but everything on the side of the 2014, well it's just a colour thing else £150 more for the 2015 with the upgrades is a no brainer, I guess I'm just hoping they change the colour last minute, or the pour the wrong paint into the tin
Soon I will be there, good to hear about the winter, as I have a feeling after using the Roubaix I might not be so willing to use MTB or hybrid. So do you clean and lube after every ride in the winter months?0 -
OK its almost over, or shall we say just started?
So I decided even though it makes total sense due to gear that I should buy the 2015, I just could not get past the colour issue, so informed dealer to get the 2014 sport in. Am picking up tomorrow afternoon, excited now, but don't think I can get out till Friday for a ride (bugger).0 -
Nice choice0
-
Roubaix is in the house, only got to go out for a quick 15 min spin, just not enough have to wait painfully till Friday morning now.
WOW it's very different to a hybrid and MTB, feels so much more aggressive to me, drop bars likely, didn't realize how much more sensitive they are, need to keep those straight lines. Alot to learn but will have alot of fun in the process.0 -
Welcome to the Specialized Needz club!
My first day on the Secteur had me breaking my all time speed record on a favourite descent.
Enjoy it. And if you want an excuse to ride it every day take up cycle commuting.I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.0 -

Slight problem with communting aspect I work from home0 -
So not the ideal morning, but then we like in England, light winds and raining about 12C
So first proper ride on the Roubaix, actually to put in in context first proper ride on a road bike, hence please excuse the nonsense comments below. (Look away now)
So love the bike, feels nice, weight is awesome, however being first experience on a road bike did have quite a few issues, here the moaning part.
1 - Handlebars, so obviously not use to the road positions, so very foreign feeling to me, yes I liked going down onto the drop bars, but overall changing from hybrid straights bars all your life makes it feel very strange. Yes I was thinking I wish this bike had straight bar at time (alot, is it possible, does anyone even do that, or it a sin?), I think I am going to take it in to get it adjust to higher position make the adjustment that much easier for me.
2 - Brakes - Found it awkward using them unless I was on the drop bars, got the idea that use the top part of the bar and use fingers, wish they had a set on the straight part.
3 - Pedals - We won't talk about cleats I have my own 3 page post on that already, so took the straps off and used, I found about 20 mins into the ride my toes had become numb (both feet) and pedal was just awkward, so I tried to flip pedal over to the flat side, and you imagine what happened round the bends and bumps, so toe'd back in and just carried on with numb toes. This I will fix today with a purchase of some flat pedals, which I knew I would anyway.
The rest was just a learning experience, I know I never pushed as hard as I do on my hybrid, yet my timing was the same as if I pushed my hybrid, so am left feeling positive that there alot more room for improvement.
I really do love the bike though0 -
stem flipped to up position, pedals changed over, ready for a long one tomorrow0
-
So 72k later def flipping was better, but neck was very sore for a few hours after ride, however I do know I was tensing up my shoulders a lot and had to consciously make an effort to drop them, but reverting unknowly. Way happier with pedals so no issues there. Got a bit more comfortable with control.
I thought I needed a shorter stem, shop adjusted the bars just a touch up angle, said helped straighten wrists on the hood and to try that else he says the stem length is fine just novice road biker.
Will see over next few rides, thing is I think I'm trying to get more of a hybrid stance on the hood then use drops when pushing, don't think I explained that very well to shop. Let's see it will be a learning couple of weeks.0 -
I didn't have a problem switching back to drops, I had a couple road bikes (down tube shifters and all) back in my teens so I wasn't completely new to it. But it took a while for my body to adapt.
Numb feet is either cleat position or overly tightened shoes.
I still forget to relax my shoulders, but an old injury tends to remind me after a while.
You probably didn't need to flip the stem, it'll just take you a while to get used to the new position and different muscle groups strengthening up (core exercises can help here) to cope with this.I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.0 -
Todays ride was a far more enjoyable experience, I think the stem flip helped, felt alot more comfortable, towards end of the ride was using the drops more and felt more aggressive overall, I think this is a far better position for the transition, did help that I cut 5 mins off my time too.0
