Anyone else ? What did you do ?
Hopped over the boarder from Lancs on Friday and was there at the start in Leeds city centre this morning. The atmosphere and crowds were immense. Ever seen a turn out for a cycling event like that before ??? ??
Lots of stuff going on too. All the towns and villages looked really nice with their own salute to the TDF.
We planned to go Harrogate but the trains and crowds were nuts !
Only spoilt when I just got back in time to see Cav fall  !

Trouble is half the people who were there cheering will be cursing "these bloody cyclists" once they get behind the wheel of a car again.0

Where's the pics Rick...?
You must have some as every single spectator was holding up their phone taking pics/vids when the peleton went past...0 -
Had a brilliant day, managed to get a spot right at the front of the sign in area. Kids loved it and saw all the top riders.
Off to bed now as an early start and a long walk in the morning, we're heading for Holme Moss.0 -

Just a couple of us in the "we were there moment". Would rather see it live than through my camera phone live .
Yeah, ok many wont really know who the riders are or perhaps curse behind the wheel tomorrow, but TBH its amazing how many turned out just to watch cycling. We should be praising this as cyclists, not dissing it.
Have only seen similar crowds on perhaps the Champs Elysees final stage. Not to mention how all the towns and villages have some sort of yellow Yorkshire tour reference somewhere.
Yorkshire has done really well imo.0 -
Yeah, spent the day watching it on TV, if I hadn't seen the crowds I wouldn't have believed it.
Radio 1 news was estimating as 2 million spectators.0 -
Cycled down from Edinburgh. Three hard days on the bike inc half of Stage 2 yesterday which was insane! Watched the Tour today in the Sky enclosure, drank beer and got fried in the sun. Harrogate was rammed! Now in Sheffield having a lie down.0

Rode over to buttertubs and ended up on TV right next to jens for my troubles. Great atmosphere but look ages to get down again. Road was literally full of people all the way down0

Skipton was by my reckoning, full to capacity. Great day out, even the kids enjoyed.
Genuinely gob smacked at the number of people there. Also in the no pics camp. Much prefer to enjoy the moment than try to capture it.0 -

You're absolutely disgusting , I'm jealous, and also happy for you all at once  Looked like a great turn out and a beautiful day.Lets just got for a ride, the heck with all this stuff...0

Great couple of days down here. Mum and dad live all of 5 min walk to the finish area. With my kids and elderly parents so chose to go into the fan park and enjoy the atmosphere rather than spend hours at the side of the road.
Today though heading out onto the stage 2 route to seer them in the flesh and get some proper pictures.
Did ride the last 52km down from Leyburn on Friday in the wind and rain which was nice.

Leeds city centre on Saturday - got really close to start line and had great view. Then rode up to Harrogate for the finish. Couldnt see it due to the crowds but was close enough for the atmosphere and could see a big screen.
Today drove to near Holmfirth and then rode up to top of Holme Moss
Top weekend all round!0 -
Thoroughly enjoyed it even if the wait time was a lot more than the action time. The atmosphere was great both days. Took a video on day one on Cote de Cray, shame it is me clapping with the phone in hand after the initial shot. In fact not a shame at all much better to have been going a bit mental and being involved:)0

Was on cote de Grinton saturday, and knaresborough Sunday
Grinton, the riders, the crowd and caravan were all hyped up - superb. All lies and jest..still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest....0 -
Just to give it from a riding up the hill perspective :

No, just a million of us lining a short flat route. It was brilliant and we were certainly behind it!!0 -

Sadly, because we had the kids in tow, we weren't really able to get anywhere near the front. But we did watch from the fan park thing, which was mental. Got on the news with my massive Isle of Man flag too
Sunday I picked out a spot I thought would be good in Huddersfield and left the kids with my mum. Few snaps from the day......0 -
CWNT - Great pics
I was at the fan park for a while (ok, at the bar near it)0 -
I'm properly gutted I didn't get out to see it live. Everyone I was supposed to be doing things with let me down.
So ended up stuck in my girlfriends house watching on the TV with my jaw on the floor.
Amazing!0 -

Ahh you should have dragged her out or gone on you r own. Someone I know just got on a Bus to Skipton, watched and soaked up the atmosphere and got the bus back home.0 -
Riding the route with the cheering crowds was pretty neat :-)0

Got up Buttertubs for about 9.30am, in a fairly populated spot about 200m further up from the huge throng on the steep section, got sunburn despite being freezing at some points (but when the sun came out it was like someone had turned the heating on!), and covered in insect bites from sitting on the grass verges for hours on end, but loved it!
I couldn't believe the speed that the peloton came up that hill, absolutely awesome, makes you realise just how many levels they are above mere mortals, especially as they had a traffic jam a few hundred metres further down the road. And the noise!
The journey back into Hawes was a bit tedious though, but entirely to be expected - there must have been 20,000 all coming down at once, many like me with bikes.
We were going to try and get to the Keighley region on the sunday (other half is from that area), but were so drained from Saturday that we decided to flop in front of the box instead.0 -

MTFU! Assuming you were on a bike, you should have gone down the North side of Buttertubs and ridden down Swaledale, past Muker, and taken the ascent back into Wensleydale by Oxnop Scar!
Shame you couldn't get to Keighley - we rode through in the morning and the atmosphere was already building up!Faster than a tent.......0 -

I was there too, a bit further up from where you were. Stayed at the Youth Hostel with my lad and my dad. An absolute belter of a weekend.
We did a part of the route on the Friday and again on the Sunday.
All the other cyclists were really supportive of my lad and were shouting "well done son" etc
The people of Yorkshire were an absolute credit0 -
