Hi all

Just had a slip out of my turbo.

The front slipped out of the block, and then my bike came out the turbo. Will it have done any damage to the bike?

The rear wheel still looks to run true in the turbo and I think it feels ok on a little ride up the road.

Chris

There is no way anyone but you would know the answer to that question unless they can actually see the bike - carefully inspect the bike and if you're not confident doing this, take it to a shop.

What should I be looking for in particular?

Did you shoot forward at 25mph with flailing arms in a style that would be an immediate youtube hit if it had been recorded..?

I've always imagined a bike would do that if it slipped out a turbo.

more than likely be absolutely fine, anything major you'd have noticed straightaway, if you're concerned take it to your LBS

Haha - how thick must you think I am?! ;) I guess I worded my post wrongly I was wondering if there any specific damage you could do in such a situation. I'm pretty new to this game I still think my road bike is pretty fragile!!

Anyway had a look can't see any breaks bends or anything, wheels spin pretty well so fingers crossed all ok. I'll ride out tomorrow and find out!!

Take it to the LBS for their opinion. A damaged turbo is a sad turbo.

What kind of thing could I have done to it?

Damaged it structurally that is invisible to the naked eye. Next time you ride your turbo down a descent it might give out on you.

Whatever you do, don't swap the turbo for a set of rollers. You'll need 6 new bikes in the first week.

Never crashed off the turbo (have punctured on it though) and not likely to as it is gathering dust in the shed, but in the 1970s I came off rollers at speed and crashed into the sideboard Mum was not amused.

Have you checked your skewers? Take the quick release off and make sure there's no damage on the rear wheel from where it ripped itself out of the screws.

Aside from that look for any bends in the seat stays and chain stays. I assume this is a carbon bike? Even then remember that it's actually quite hard to damage them no matter what the internet tells us. The guys at cyclist had to literally hit one with a sledge hammer to properly snap one.

I had an accident on a turbo trainer once many years ago when my then very young daughter ran in front of me and I instinctively swerved to avoid her. The bike remained attached to the turbo, but everything fell on its side. No damage, much embarrassment.

I fell off mine in to a bread bin once. Really painful.

Not at all funny at the time as I trapped a nerve in my shoulder.

    Didnt damage the bike though.

Yes, the Pain syllable doesn't sound the same at all but it is the French for 'bread'. That is absolutely hilarious!
