Killer driver (x2) ...

http://www.westernmorningnews.co.uk/Lorry-driver-admits-dangerous-driving-charge/story-21311820-detail/story.html

You would have thought that after the first incident it would have acted as a major shot across the bows for the average bod, but not this guy.

Wrong time, wrong place ... there but for the grace of God it could be you ....

ps I noticed after posting that for the title of the thread I thought I had typed "from" but upon reflection it may have been an entirely appropriate error on my part.

Alan

Have I misread that or did it take a year to get to court? Is that normal, seems pretty shocking if it is.

Pretty much i think.. This is local to me so watching this one with interest. Im a little surprised that no statement has been released about what actually happened ie why did he not see the two cyclists. At least he had the guts to plead guilty and a long custodial sentence is inevitable

So he killed 2 got bailed and was allowed to hop back in a truck again so he could injure someone else.

Not how I read it. To me he was on bail for the previous dangerous driving awaiting trial, so couldn't be banned until convicted, then went on to kill the two cyclists in a collision. He's currently on conditional court bail with an interim disqualification whilst pre-sentence reports are prepared.

I think you have misread the newspaper article which states

"He further pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving resulting in serious injuries to another driver on September 21, 2013 in a road traffic collision on the A30 near Whiddon Down, Okehampton, Devon, whilst he was on bail for the fatal collisions."

So I would read that to say that he had already killed the two cyclists and was on bail in respect of that offence when he was involved in yet another collision causing serious injuries for which he was also subsequently charged and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving

Basically he appears to be your worst nightmare - a lunatic in charge of a large destructive vehicle.

Yep hands up, I misread it.

The Police might have missed an opportunity to apply for court conditional bail to impose an interim ban until the trial, but then again, the police often apply for court conditional bail conditions to be imposed and the courts refuse. It all depends on how well the CPS solicitor argues the case for the conditional bail. If the defence stand up and put in a counter claim that his livelihood depends on his job as a driver, the courts would no doubt side with them. After all, innocent until proven guilty and by taking his livelihood away you're imposing a kind of punishment.
