Garmin Touring Plus

I have a Garmin Touring Plus. I (try) use it for audaxes or rides on a pre programmed defined track. I always download the courses as a GPX track. But still the unit tries to divert me off my chosen course with endless stupid diversions and bizzarre detours. Is there any way to turn the routing off on this unit and simply follow the breadcrumb trail on the map? Or better still get the damn thing to simply give you directions on the chosen course. I have it set as 'recalculation off', 'minimize distance' (unfortunately you have to select that or minimize time or ascent) and 'lock on road' when doing a road ride
I was previously using a Garmin Dakota for this which worked really well providing you downloaded the course as a gpx track.
All helpful tips gratefully recieved

I had this problem with my Garmin Touring but turning recalculation off seems to have cured it. Before I did this, the unit kept taking me on detours and often taking me back on myself and changing the direction of the route entirely! Can't offer any other suggestions than the recalculation option though I'm afraid.0

Hi BI
I am already riding with recalculation set at off. But am still getting the crazy detours. Looking at a Garmin forum it seems that this problem is inherent with the GTE unit and that there is no way to turn the routing off and to get it simply to follow a pre-programmed gpx track or TCX course. It seems that a software fix is needed from Garmin and people have been flagging up the problem to Garmin who do not seem to be in a hurry to do anything about it.0
