Hi
Im planning to take my bike with me in the car through the Eurotunnel
I dont have any rack or something like that but the bike fits perfectly if i put the rear seats down
Does anybody know if this is legal to carry the bike like this? Should i buy any holder or something like that?
Thank you

Sure it is legal, it can't be viewed any differently to having a few suitcases on the back seat.0

I do it all the time. At least 3 times a year no probs0

Ok... in Spain it is ilegal to fold down the seats and put something in the back of the car if it is not attached to the car structure...
Thank you!0 -
If you know why ask?0

Last time I looked the Eurotunnel went nowhere near Spain.0

Eurotunnel - France to England
Spain he knew it to be illegal but wasnt too sure on UK or French law on the subject.
Not sure how people got that confused.0 -
This thread just shows everything that's wrong with this forum. Too many sneery people ready to jump on anyone, even when they're asking a genuine and sensible question.
I never knew that about Spain so glad the OP mentioned it to be honest.Rose Xlite Team 3100 Di2

We used to have the bikes inside the car when we went to the Alps, not sure if its legal or not though."Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

I'd check for a definition of attached if I was you - sounds like something a bungee cord might fix...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

UK it's fine. I travel to a race every week with my bike in the back0

Do exactly the same using a old quilt to protect the car / bike.
I use an old curtain to protect the bike from stuff on it (spare wheels) I couldn't give a shoot about the car...worth much less than the bike0 -
If wheels are removed from bike bits of old carpet is good to shove between anything that might come into contact with each other. Plus old sheet or the like to cover everything up so what's underneath isn't visible.I'm not getting old... I'm just using lower gears......

Not sure it is bizarre - at least it stops people filling up the back of the car with a load of axes and then causing carnage when they crash!
Mind you, it's exactly the sort of law that loads of people would huff about and say 'only in Britain'............Faster than a tent.......0 -

The Spanish don't exactly strike me as the most law abiding of people so it does seem a little odd."Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

This law in Spain also applies to dogs, I discovered when I was cycle touring there last summer. Dogs have to be in a cage or secured with a harness. Police issue on the spot fines to miscreants.0

As you do...0 -
So you can chase a donkey over the edge of a building and torture a bull for entertainment or let one run loose down a narrow street full of people but unsecured items in cars are dangerous?
Makes sense.0 -
Also you get fined in Spain for driving in flip flops, which I think is sensible due to their propensity to get caught under car pedals.0
