That's nuts. I had to question its authenticity, but it seems Terpstra also exceeded 70mph in the same race!0 -

same here - it is the short very sharp descents on small roads that give me concern.
Had a great descent of Llanberis last week - but had just ridden up it so knew the surface was OK and knew it was dry.
Happy up to mid 40s (mph) on roads that I can trust. However I have had problems with cars passing then braking heavily for the next corner.0 -
No one ever died from flying downhill at 50mph+ speeds
So long as you dont come to a sudden unexpected stop!0 -
If your at all put off by the speed of your decent? know your bike, Then keep dabing the brakes, ok I know its not brave but better to be a live sensible cyclist than an injured one Ok if you know the road and its good (straight too) with plenty of room for cars and other to overtake then perhaps I will go for it but if its wet or any chance of frost then I just take it easy after all I have written 9 cars off in my life (needless to say I don't drive much if I can help it now) and am still here though I doubt I would get away with it on a push bike. As have had one tumble 20 years ago on a straight downhill and that was over the bonnet of a car that pulled out from a side turning So perhaps its a case of common sense after all.0
