a question of this bike vs that bike (Tarmac SL4)

Looking at a new bike relatively soon and had stumbled over the Specialised Tarmac SL4 Sport, but not sure what makes this better than say a Boardman carbon pro?

Is the frame really that much better?

Thanks!

If that matters to you, don't buy a Boardman either...

    Buy the SL4....

If you don't you will have SL4 envy.

    Which is bad.

So far nobody has added anything compelling on the SL4 over anything else in same price bracket - CAAD10 / Planet X RT57 / Boardman pro / etc...

Buy a Cannondale supersix 105 from Pauls cycles for £1099. There you go all sorted. :D Cheaper and same as CAAD 10.

Not got the right size supersix...they do have the right size CAAD though :-)
I had looked at getting a CAAD10 ultegra from Germany for approx 1350, but then you keep saying "if I just pay a bit more..."

    This way madness lies. ;)

FWIW I bought the SL4 Sport.

What made you go for the Tarmac over anything else?

There was no single deciding factor- it just seemed to be a good option and I wanted to make a decision, rather than spend an endless amount of time comparing products for what is effectively no major difference (not a dig at you- I just found myself thinking this after a couple of weeks of to-ing and fro-ing).
I was also looking at the Boardman as well as the CAAD8 and CAAD10.
I'm sure I would have been pretty happy with any of them.

I liked the look for it, it seems to be a good frame with mostly good parts but still a good platform for upgrading (wheels, brakes).
I think that under £1500 there isn't necessarily one product that has a significant advantage over something else- certain bits will be better but they have to cut corners somewhere.

Also the shop I bought it from (SigmaSport) had it in stock in my size and are fairly close should it (when it) need fettling.

I'm not sure how much upgrading I will do- I'm pretty terrible for endlessly tweaking my MTB and motorcycle so I could end up going the whole Dura-hog on it, or maybe just throw some nicer wheels on it, 105 brakes and be done with it.

Thanks for taking time to reply, useful info and thinknim in the same boat. Already have a Boardman alloy roadie, upgraded wheels, mechs and finishing kit but really need to think about getting a decent frame now.

A good carbon frame is the next logical step I guess.
My MTB is alloy (and about 15 years old) and I definitely wanted to go carbon for my road bike.

Get a Specialized or else you will be jealous ( like everyone else is) about that guy riding one. There's a reason why they are the best bikes in the world, because they really are. And unless one is gay, everyone like pussy.
