Just had a bike fit and been advised that a 90 mm stem rather then the 100 mm one ive got now would be better. My stem is a easton ea30. Can anyone suggest one that is an upgrade
Looking on wriggles ive seen these

    What angle do you want?
In general I think a stem is a stem but maybe I'm a philistine.

Having said that, I do like the Specialised stems with inserts to tweak the stem angle in 2 degree increments. It gives additional adjustability beyond the spacers without the bulk, weight or ugliness of the fully adjustable type in one of your links.

They're all reversible as far as I'm aware. 6 or 8 degrees are typical but you can get much bigger angles. I've got a 20 degree one to drop the bars in my CX bike which had a very upright position.
The angle will dictate the height of your bar. If you're happy with the height as it stands then get a similar angle to your current one. If you want to tweak the height a bit or shuffle the spacers around a little then this is your chance.

Ok thanks. The angle is about right. Using wiggles or anyone else could someone suggest a stem uptp to around £60 that would be an improvement over my current stem thanks

I agree with the recommendation for Specialized stems - Tredz and Evans both sell them.

    And Wiggle is singular :)

Get the one you like the look and weight of.

Be careful of getting one with an unwanted angle.

I would avoid the adjustable one like the plague! You will look like a complete muppet!!
The Specialized one (that has been mentioned) will make you look like a bit of a muppet (sorry Ai-1) IMO, but its personal choice.

If you have had a bike fit did they not say which angle 90mm stem to get and which way up you needed it?
If not specified I would get one with the same angle.

Would not bother with the Specialized adjustable one. Why add complication?
Stick a good looking, lighter, shorter one on. Forget about it and ride ;-)

This one would be my choice

Or this if looks better with red stripe

I agree the fully adjustable types aren't terribly attractive and will also add weight and probably lmit your options for mounting a computer on the stem. However, I don't see what's "muppety" about the Specialized stem. It's pretty indistinguishable from most other stems and there's no real weight penalty. It looks fine unless you dislike the Specialized logo!

Here's the one I've used on my CX bike:

I got this mostly because I needed an unusually big angle which the 24+/-4 degree version delivered. However the 12+/-4 degree version should work perfectly for you. You could use it with 10 degrees of drop which should put the bar about 1.5mm higher than it is now or 12 degrees which will put you about 1.5mm lower than you are now. Very little in it either way it's just fine tuning. (shorter stem with the same angle gives less rise/drop).

It is the Specialized logo brand as much as the fact it is adjustable, and it is of course my personal feeling.

If it gives you the angle that you want where another would not then I guess that makes sense.
Its adjustability seems pretty pointless for the OP though. If he is having a bike fit for someone else to tell him where things should be I cannot see what 4 degrees of adjustment is going to do other than confuse/waste time.

Have you looked at Deda Zero 1 or 2? They can be had new for about 15-20quid, light, and look great! All the stem you'll ever need! (I use a zero 2 on my colnago)

I would love to know how all those Specialized adjustable stems are configured on peoples bikes.
Would put money on the vast majority being flipped with max height.
Do not think the 'fine tuning' aspect comes into play for most purchasers.

Perhaps, but not on mine. I have it set 26 degrees downward if I remember correctly. This gets me a fairly average road bike position on my Tricross. My new Canyon Ultimate gives me a similar position with a perfectly normal 6 degree downward stem and a couple of spacers!

+1 Stems are just bits of metal and the Deda Zero 1 does the job on my £2500 frame no problem and looks good.

    Appearance

The 1 is flippable +/-6 and has a cheaper finish but still looks great, the 2 looks even acer and has an anodized finish but is designed to be used as a -7 stem only..
