Not sure I want to sell my 2012 Roubaix Expert yet. Made it to bring the bike at 7.5kg with pedals and the bike covers most of my road riding needs. Ok handling is horrible so is general stiffness,I consider it an ok bike but nothing to lose sleep over it. It uses Ultegra 6700the worst possible group Shimano came out with. If I'll decide to keep the bike for an excess of 1 year more is it worth it to upgrade to DA 9000 or Red 22 ?

I wouldn't put a top end groupset on a frame that's nothing to write home about.

It would make an excellent winter bike by the sounds of things.

Nowt wrong with 6700. Certainly better than the frame it's on.

Just saw one of your posts in the "your bikes" section. What's with the 6700 hatred?

Plenty of unhappy customers with the 6700 all over the web. In my case the issues were even more noticeable given the long chainstays typical of the Roubaix ( Shimano find out that the group worked at it's worst with long chaninstays... ) + the internal cable routing.
It took me 80 Euro out of my pockets to correct the issue but even after this I can't just ride and shift like a human,I have to remember to give my thumbs the right amount of swing if I want to land on the proper cog. Are you on 50 up front and want to move from 11 to 12 at the back ? 9 times out of 10 you're gonna steal the extra click needed to go from 12 to 13. Pain in the arse it is,can't even challenge other riders and just pedal the sh.. out of it chasing them,I need to stay focused on the damn thing...

uh...and I'm sick of the compact too...

Sounds like you have no idea how to properly index your gears. Never had trouble with mine (over 7k miles of 4 season riding). Never heard of that issue from any of the shop monkeys I know or any other club members (probably have around 80 riding 6700).

Right. Have your smart monkeys give these a read :

So the problem is with your frame, not the groupset (lots of bikes with 'longer' chainstays don't have the issue you describe). If you actually read through those threads you'll see that most solved the issue by using better cables and housings (Dura Ace), aligning the mech hanger and making sure that the cable is properly seated. If that doesn't work then Specialized changed the dropout ferrule from the 2011 to 2012 model years as that has also been identified as being a problem area. http://cdn.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/pdf/manuals/roubaix_sl3_shifting_fix.pdf

Jesus, if you did half as much research as you did slagging off then maybe you'd have a bike that could shift properly.

You changed the dropout ferrule with the updated one? Really?

Again, the frame is the problem, not the groupset. I bet I could get it to shift properly and I'm a mallet with maintenance.

Chuck the Shimanooo in the bin and buy some Italian bits.

In fact, just sell the whole shebang and buy a Ribble CF frame with Centaur Groupset and a decent set of hoops.

Sounds to me that you are not happy with any part of your bike :?
No point upgrading anything, sell it and move on

Tell you what ,probably the "common man" C24 DA wheels are still some of the best wheels out there. Yeah they look fugly but it's hard to beat their price and durability. Not the stiffest spokes but they can't take some serious abuse and they just roll roll and roll. Probably the only part of the bike I've been pretty happy about ( and of course, they were not OEM... )

TBH, I have a pair of the predecessors, the DA 1380's with an Ambrosio cassette so they are compatible with the Record 10. They are an outstanding wheelset. Not that much cop along the flat but uphill, they are superb.
